Spinning/road bike 1:00:00 [3]
max:145

The battery on the Ambit 2 is amazing. Out of habit (or maybe old school thinking), on the 1st charger, I usually run my battery to the end. Well, it has been about 9 days, with numerous workouts, all with HR belt and some with GPS, and battery is still at 73%. I'm getting impatient because I'm dying to upload the data to Movescount and check it out.

Note

It was an odd day yesterday. I finished my work and had intentions of a short run, follow by a spinning class. On the way to the gym, I just felt very tired (more mentally then physicallu). Like I mean really really tired!

Instead of a workout, I took a short 30 min walk, went home and was going to take a nap. I slept from 8 pm to 12:00 midnight. Got up, for about an hour, went back to bed and didn't wait up until 7 am.

I feel OK today. But not my usual enthusiastic self. :-(

Possible causes:

1. Too many high intensity workouts lately. I need to lower the intensity, but exercise longer.

2. Bad diet. I had bread for breakfast, a large pasta dish for lunch and congee for dinner. Too many Carbs. I need to pay more attention to what I eat.

3. I am just getting old. :P

The perceived intensity at HR = 150 for spinning is about the same as for 175 for Aerobics (Body Attack).

Strength (Abs) 30:00 [3]

Tired one of those Abs Classes (CXWORX), My core definitely needs work.

Run 30:00 [3]
shoes: Reebok - Red, TO

I had to return a library book (on orienteering) today. Rather than driving, I thought I run there.

'It'd be good to exercise before my 2 day meeting at downtown Toronto.'

I like my Amibt, it gives good feedback on pace, HR and distance. However, I found it to be a bit dangerous. After the run, I was walking and checking all my data. It was then that I walked into a car. Fortunately, it was a parked car. My shin is a bit bruised, but I'm glad I didn't hit my Ambit on it.

Spinning/road bike (Spinning) 1:00:00 [3]

Feeling much better today. Quads are still a bit stuff, but the back is fine. I think taking a long nap (more like a sleep) yesterday afternoon helped. :P

I spent most of the evening setting up (and playing) with my new toy, a Suunto Ambit 2. :-) It's very cool. It's compatible with my Garmin HR belt (you have to 'pair' it first). I guess now, it means I have to use it.

Run race (Salomon Raid the Hammer) 5:55:00 [4] 28.1 km (12:38 / km)
shoes: Montrail Hardrock - Grey

I was racing with a new team, son MG, and future daughter-in-law RL. The good news is that we finished! Actually, I didn't expect us to finish the Full Raid. Both MG and RL are new to the sport, and I've been out of it for so long, that from a fitness point of view, I am also new.

We decided to do the Full Raid (versus the 1/2 Raid) because the price difference was minor - it was the 'best deal for the pain'. :P

We kept up with some of the other teams until CP 9. We went up the wrong ridge. It took us over an hour to recover from that. And I guess, going up-and-down the 'Wong Way' ridge will get you every time. :D After that, we lacked the fitness to push.

Here are a couple of my memorable moments.

I was impress with MG's navigation. He is new to it. Bash gave us a lesson earlier this year and this would be MG's 3rd event.

RL had a great attitude through out the race!

I saw a deer on the way to C

Going up hills in all fours were interesting. Going down was more interesting. I finally got tired of bouncing off trees to slow down. So I just slid down on my butt. Can't wait for 'snowshoeing down hills' season :)

I need to be in better shape. I had a cramp on my right leg about 1/2 way.

There was a lot more running than expected. Doing the Hip-Hop class the day before was probably not a smart thing. :P

Love the Salomon Skin Pack. Love the thumb compass, though the magnifying lens attachment was not necessary (because I already had bi-focal safety glasses).

At the end of the day, I had a lot of fun. :)
