Run 1:30:00 [2]
shoes: Fila 4 Fingers - Blue

Staying indoor with treadmill runs for now. Too cold to run outside, I still have a minor tickle in the throat once a while. And it sound awful - good to clear a bargain shopping area if you want some privacy. :P

From a Treadmill perspective and without thinking about it too much, my running cadence seem to vary between 88 and 90. And this is regardless of the speed that I set the treadmill at (between 5 and 6.5). Look like, I am changing my stride length rather than my cadence at higher speeds.

Hike/Walk 1:10:00 [1]

Pretty much back to normal now. I spoke with someone about the flu and she said that she had it last Dec and it took her almost 5 weeks to recovery fully. So I guess I should not whine about 10 days.

As a general rule, I am usually pretty enthusiastic about things - sometimes too many things. :P But thinking back, it was a strange feeling to get up in the morning and not wanting to do anything - except to watch TV in bed and take a nap.

Run (Treadmilll) 1:10:00 [3]
shoes: Fila 4 Fingers - Blue

Tried out the foot pod on a treadmill today. Without thinking about it, and I am still have not fully recovered from the flu - so running slower, my average cadence is 86. Target should be about 90.

The Ambit 2 is very nice, in that it gives you the instantaneous cadence.

It's actually a Garmin Footpod. But it pairs fine with the Ambit 2.

Spinning/road bike 1:00:00 [3]

Tried the foot pod in a spinning class to see if I can get the cadence - doesn't work. I didn't expect it to. Everything I read seem to indicated that you need a 'running (impact) motion'

Spinning/road bike 1:10:00 [3]
ahr:136 max:154

First 'serious' workout since the flu. I got thru the spinning class, but had to take water every a couple of minutes - a tickle in the throat causing me to cough.

Took it easy, but heartrate was good, even though perceived effort was low.

Wednesday Jan 22, 2014 #

Note

I'm down to taking just 1 nap today.

I know... a rather funny way to measure progress. :P

Should be well enough to get back into my routines by tomorrow.

Tuesday Jan 21, 2014 #

Note

Still have not recovered from the flu yet. But it's getting better every day.

Feeling tired, chills and a mild headache. I can still get around, clean up the house, play with my gears etc., but seems to end up taking 3 naps (about 1/2 hour each) a day.

I have been able to catching up on a lot of movies on my watch-list. :)

Note

On Thu. Jan 16. I caught another cold. :(

This one hit me fast and hard. I was working on some drywall and vinyl tiles downtown, on the way home I started getting a cough. By Thursday evening, or in about 4 hours: the cough -> headache -> fever -> achy body. Tylenol helped, but was very tired and I slept for 24 hours. By Saturday, I was able to stay up long enough to just watch a movie, then back to sleep. I couldn't eat anything because everything tasted like saw dust. The best I can do was to drink fluids and chocolate milk. I had a craving for salty stuff - so potato chips were on the menu. :-)

This morning, I'm better. I say about 75%

I was in bed for about 44 of the last 48 hours. My body is feeling achy (probably for being in bed for so long). I lost 5 pounds (141), but my fat % is the same (11.5%).

My stomach was hurting this morning. I took me a while a realize that was the feeling of being hungry. I ate something Chinese noodles and seem to have settle it.

Run 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: Montrail Hardrock - Grey

Very easy run today (almost a walk actually). Feeling good - no pain in the tooth (or jaw). Still feels odd - like I want to brush and floss that area.

Started some 'handy man' work. Now I know when I don't like driving in TO. It took me 1 hour to drive from Bathurst and Bloor to Eglinton and Allan. That is about 5 km. I can walk it in that time. Arrgh!

I got frustrated so I dropped by Costco (north of the Yorkdale mall), I saw and I got a foot pod there. I just wanted to try it with my Ambit 2. The good thing about Costco is that they have a very good return policy. I'm going to try it in my next Zumba or Hip Hop dance class

I wonder... if a future Ambit will have an interface to something like Google Glass. That would be cool!

Intervals 1:00:00 [4]
ahr:152 max:179 shoes: Fila 4 Fingers - Blue

A most excellent Interval work out! No pain medicals since yesterday morning. No pain in jaw. :-) Still feels odd, sort of like when you didn't floss, like something is there.

Sunday Jan 12, 2014 #

Note

Sun. Jan 12. Took some Tylenol before going to bed last night and slept for a full 6 hours straight without pain. :D

No drugs this today and felt OK (1/4). I guess it takes about 48 to 50 hours hours for an implant to 'settle'.

I have not work-out in almost over a week. The no exercise curfew expires tomorrow morning. :-)

Between the flu and the dental implant, I'm still looking for my 1st healthy day of 2014.

Saturday Jan 11, 2014 #

Note

Sat. Jan 11. Didn't sleep much last night. The jaw is very painful (4/4). I finally gave in and took some Tylenols. Drugs are amazing...felt fine after it kicked it (1/4).

Strength 2:30:00 [1]

The snow and ice was melting fast. I had 3 leaks in the basement. Spent over 2 hours shoveling snow away from the side of the house. Had to take it easy as to 'not elevate my heart rate'.

This Exercise Curfew is brutal. Would've love to go running today. :-(

Friday Jan 10, 2014 #

Note

Friday, Jan 10. Jaw was OK last night (2/4), but it got worst as the day went on (3/4)

According to the post-op instructions, no exercise for 3 days. It actually read 'No activities where you heart rate would be elevated'. So, I don't know, the only activity I can think was is shopping.

I took a stroll along the malls, didn't buy anything - the jaw was too sore and so didn't feel like buying anything. But I did make some observations.

I saw a pair of size 40 inch waist, 30 inseam jeans...in a slim cut. :P

I saw 'look alike' Canada Goose jackets with their circle label on the shoulder. The most common is Canada Arctic Gear or Winter Gear or something like that. But I did see a 'China Goose' one. I'm waiting to see if I can find one that says 'Peking Duck'. Now that, I would buy. I think it would be cool to have a Canada Goose knock off jacket that has the label: Peking Duck. :D

You can get a McDonalds coffee and muffin for $1.40 (or something like that). I think it's $1.30 for the coffee and an extra 10 cents for the muffin.

As I was sitting in the mall, having my coffee and muffin. I wonder whether this is what retirement is: not feeling 100%, walking in malls, not buying anything and smiling at a deal on coffee and muffin. :P

Strength 2:00:00 [1]

Took it easy, and spend about 2 hours chipping ice off the driveway and cars. Figure I better do it now before it freezes again.

Thursday Jan 9, 2014 #

Note

Thu. Jan 9. My Cold/Flu got better. But today I had to see the specialist re: my tooth implant, as the 1st one was rejected. From the x-ray, it was picture perfect, but It was definitely loose.

The option is that he can put in a new post now with a 75% chance of success. The more traditional approach is to remove the implant, let the bone heal for 3 months, then, put in a new one.

We figure 75% chance was good odds.

So he pulled the old one and replaced it with a new one

The jaw is pretty sore, probably from a combination of the needles and the work.

Note

I've been sick with the flu for the past couple of days. It started after my spinning class on Fri. Jan 3. At that point, I had a stomach ache and a mild headache. I initially had thought that it was just too much food and drinks during New Year's Eve.

For the next few days, I felt like a Zumbie - not quite alive and not quite dead. The Chinese describes it as '5354'.

Off course, the macho part of me continued to do things like cut down the fallen branches and trees, shovel ice and snow, ran in -20.

On Monday, Jan 6, I spent about 2 hours shoveling the snow and built a couple of ice ramps for the neighborhood kids. They were cool!

I came in the house and it hit me hard. I slept for the next 20 hours, headache, dry throat and a fever of about 100 F. I got better 24 hours later (by yesterday) and I'm almost back to normal today.

Now... feeling more alive than dead. :D

Spinning/road bike 1:00:00 [4]
ahr:138 max:160

Dying to run outside, but just too cold (-25).
Seems to have picked up a head cold.

Strength 30:00 [2]

Spent (and quit after) about 1/2 hr of hauling and cutting branches. The -25 ish temperature was just too cold. Both hands were hurting.

Wednesday Jan 1, 2014 #

Note

stomach not feeling well. Probably too much bad food on New Years Eve. sticking with plain congee for the day.
