Day 2 of the West Point A-meet. The physical difficulty (length and climb) of the course were comparable to yesterday's. My time and my amount of navigational error were also similar to yesterday's. Altogether, this is a sign that I was performing at the same level as yesterday. This, in turn, is a sign that I was probably moving precisely as fast as my navigational ability and physical shape could allow me on both days.
The reason I see the same level of performance on the two days as a sign that I was going at exactly the right pace is the following. If I had been going too fast on the first day (and tried to maintain the same pace on the second day), I would have gotten more lost on the second day. If I had been going too slow on the first day, I would have gotten less lost and would have been physically faster on the second day.
