| Race started quite well with both Tys and Janice pulling me on the tow. We tore off in first place with everyone else giving chase. The whole trek went pretty well, although we probably should have tried to push the pace a bit more. We came out in the top 10 they said. Canoe was going ok until we took a wrong turn and portaged the whole trail. Not until the team in front of us turned around did we also notice our mistake and have to turn around. When we came off the water we were back in 30 something place.
Onto the bikes and Janice found the first half pretty difficult. This being only her second time on a mountain bike all year. Nothing spectacluar happened on the bikes and we were surprised to still make the advanced cutoff by 20 minutes. However we decided to skip it and return home. With the race starting so late I was running the risk of totally missing Mike's bachelor party (of which I am the best man) and Tys had to go to Kingston still that night. A fun race overall, but not a good one with my nav mistake. | ||

| A very pathetic week of training for me. Not sure what's wrong but three days this week I got up with every intention of going for a bike ride and didn't. I either sat at the kitchen table and did work, or came into work early to get stuff done. Not the best way to prepare for my final 2 races of the year.
Been spending a fair bit of my down time thinking about next year and what I want to do. Many different ideas, and I'm still not sure about it. One idea is to actually listen to Hammer and try MTBO with an eye for the world's, although I'm not sure if that's realistic seeing as he pointed out the only race I could do would be the world's. I think I'd really like to focus more on bigger adventure races instead of OCUP racing; however, the fact that I do not have a competitive team really hampers this. With Eddie and Tyson I think we have the base for a really good team, but again the fact that we can't find a female at all makes it hard to actually plan any races. Another idea is to look for 2 or 3 large 24 hour races that I can do solo and just focus on those. The final thing I've been thinking about is my actual training. I know I don't train enough right now to be really competitive in larger races. I currently lay out my schedule based off of 450 hours in a year. I'm thinking of really going for it next year and planning for 600 hours. This would mean 14/15 hour weeks, and I don't know if I can fit that in with work or not. ... and should I consider a coach or just making this up on my own as I go.... many questions to way out. | ||

| Durham Durango. Great day for a race and noshnoj came out so we could race against each other. Started slow with the cold weather, and then just let the race come to me. Turns out I had passed noshnoj at some point on the first lap when he took a wrong turn (glad to see I wasn't the only one). He caught me on the second lap, but then had some chains woes so I put down the hammer to never see him again (well he was only 2 minutes behind me at the finish). A great day and a great day for racing. | ||

| Went riding in Kelso with EJ, we tried to ride as much of the OCUP course as we could figure out. A bit wet which made it harder to ride some of the rocks/roots. This ended earlier after I rode through a wasp's nest and was stung 4 times. The good news is that the swelling was pretty localized to the areas of the stings so the shots I'm taking seem to be working. Still we didn't want to risk it so just an easy cruise home from there. | ||
