Running 32:00 [2]

Bah, I'm coming down the cold Kristen and Aubrey had last week. No energy today on my run. Decided to just do a short loop of the park to get the adrenaline flowing. I think I'll take it easy this week so hopefully I kick it quickly.

Running long 2:39:00 [3]

Ran down to Chicopee via the Grand River trail system (using the single track when it was there). Then from there I took the Dom Cardillo trail up to Stanley Park, and then ran Stanley Part trails back to close to home. This was a bit of an experiment to explore new trails and it worked out pretty well. Fairly flat but was nice to not have to just do an out and back. Most of the run was either chipped gravel or single track, very little road except from my house to the trails and the same section back home.

This is the route:

Nice morning run along the grand. There was a lot of fog this morning and temps were -5 when I went out. Once the sun came up it looked pretty sweet with all the dew frozen on the bushes/trees.

Note

Kristen and I are both coaching ARK this year which means that Aubrey now comes out for an hour on Tuesday nights with us.

We've noticed the last little while that we now play ARK games at home.

First it was running from one part of the living room to the other, but before you started you had to beep the SI.

Then last night we played the card game. You drew a card and Aubrey counted how many symbols were on the card. Then she told you what you had to do based on your card and finally you ran around the kitchen and back before you drew a new card.

What made this game interesting is that the activities were all made up by Aubrey so we did a lot of rolling and tucking. Also it seems that no matter the number on the card you always did 9 of the activity. Everything was made tougher by the fact that our niece was also over and she thought it was great fun to climb on us as we rolled around on the ground doing our activity.

Orienteering race 3:42:54 [5]

The day started quickly for me when Kristen woke me up at 7:20 asking me "shouldn't you be up already". Sh!t, I was supposed to leave 5 min ago. Rushed around the house to grab the last few things I needed and was out the door in 5 min with a handful of granola bars that were going to have to be my breakfast.

The race execution went well for us. I had some bobbles early on as I always find it hard to get into the map for the first few controls. Then on the way to 6 we slowed as I tried to understand the trails in the open areas. We ran right by 'C' and had to go back to re-locate, but even this only cost us a few minutes.

Tyson was really strong today and towed Audrey for most of the race and I felt much stronger than I usually do. Normally I would hit some point where my legs feel very tired and running becomes very hard. Usually at Raid the Hammer this happens sooner given all the hills. Today I felt strong right to the finish. I think it's either the squats/dead lifts I've been doing or I'm just getting to be a stronger runner. Either way I was really happy with this.

Caught Pillar and team on our way to 13. The look on his face was priceless when he turned around and saw us there again. Then I really focused so we wouldn't make any more mistakes and we ran scared to the finish from there.

Running 2:18:20 [3]

Wanted to explore something different today, but had to be home by 9 to take Aubrey to gymnastics. I remembered that Sally had mentioned trails on the other side of the river by Victoria. I ran down to there and went exploring. Turns out I found the grand river trails that ran along that side of the river. Ended up running new trails for 40 min and then using roads and other trails to come back to our house.
