Thursday May 31

Adventure Racing race 24:00:00 [4]
We spent the night between day 2 and 3 biking from the island over to Rudyard. I think this bike was my favorite. 70 miles all by ourselves at night. We met one team at the ferry, but didn't see them again. Had another 15 min nap at a CP and then just continues until the TA. Once at the TA we laid down for 2 hours of rest.

Next stage was a paddle, very unexciting, we tried to dry my feet out as much as possible, hoping the blisters would get better.

After the paddle it was trek #2. After about 15 min on my feet I was sure I couldn't go on, but my team really helped me out. We little pills for the pain and taking my heavy weight we were able to pass a lot of teams on this trek, so much so we came out in 5th place.

We hoped onto the bikes after some more blister treatment from the medical staff. At this point my feet were just wrapped in duct tape. The bike was pretty heinous, we spent hours just pushing our bikes through sandy trails and then we had to ride along a rail road track. At one point we thought there was a train approaching, but then we passed the team standing still on the track and realized they were the "train".

Adventure Racing race 24:00:00 [4]
We had a quick sleep on the trail and then worked our way back to the TA. We were done in 12th I believe. A not so quick TA because of my blisters and onto the bikes for another loop of the island. This bike ride was pretty good. A lot of rock at times, but nothing too hard. We didn't have any nav problems. I felt bad for some of the teams we saw still trekking as we passed by on our bikes. They'd obviously had a much worse trek then us. Back into the TA and it was off to the sea kayak.

We were able to finish the sea kayak before night, nothing too exciting, we had some fierce wind at one point, but it died done pretty quickly.

Tuesday May 29

Adventure Racing race 17:00:00 [4]
MIX day 1. This involved a bike start (with the helicopter filming us from above) to a canoe put in. We got delayed about half way through when Leanne got a flat. On the water the wind was pretty bad, so they shorten the paddle. We did pretty good on the water and were able to pass a few teams.

Back onto the bikes and we passed a team as we just caught the ferry. This put us right back up with most of the teams as we ran into the main pack again on this ferry.

Off the ferry and we biked into the TA. Then it was off to a trek. The trek started about right with me throwing up beside the trail. We then spent 4 hours looking for a check point. Oh well soon it was night and we were wandering around on trails getting checkpoints by the edge of the island by moon light.

Monday May 28

Note
MIX
Note
Race prep day. This involved seeing the race course, all 390 miles of it, and planning the maps. Also we finished building our sail umbrellas and packed all the gear. The gear bins had to be split up into 2 groups half for Drummond and the rest for the 2nd half of the race.

Sunday May 27

Note
Driving, driving and more driving. Only broken up with a 90 minute stop at the boarder where we had to unload all our gear boxes so they could search through them for food. Tys got confused at one point when they asked if we had any fruit. He didn't realize that apples, pineapple and strawberries all count as fruit. Only the vegetarian got away with everything he had brought. Although a quick stop at the jerky hut and wal mart restocked the rest of the team.

Wednesday May 23

Cycling 1:05:00 [3]
Did 2 laps before the race started and then took it a bit easier on the last lap.
C • Have Fun at MIX! 1
Cycling race 40:00 [5]
First two laps of the race. Was feeling pretty tired in my legs.

Monday May 21

Running 1:20:00 [4]
Good run this morning along the waterfront.

Saturday May 19

Paddling 2:30:00 [3]
Out paddling with the team for Mix. Got to spend about half the time in a Kayak which was a lot of fun. Paddle back was hard work, probably from the beers we drank at our rest stop.

I felt really strong paddling, probably from the time spent on the arm bike.
C • That Arm Bike Sure Makes You Muscular 1

Ride to work.
Cycling 1:25:00 [3]
Ride Home.

Thursday May 17

Weights 1:00:00 [1]
Weights. I've also apparently lost more then 5 pounds in the last 2 weeks since I last weighed myself..... Very interesting since I've actually been scaling back my training for MIX. I think there was something wrong with the scale.
C • Probably all that arm bike bus... 3

Wednesday May 16

Note
Today was apparently drive your bike to work day. Brought the MTB with me to work with every intention of doing the Wed night race at King. Even when I went out a lunch it was only dewy in the air, but when I left work it was raining again. Decided to just skip it since it's never any fun to ride trails in the rain, and it's not good for the trails anyway.

Monday May 14

Stretching (Yoga for Flexibility) 30:00 [1]
Running 30:00 [2]
Light run after work.

Sunday May 13

Note
Ocup #2 or Hard Rock O
Cycling warm up/down 35:00 [2]
Cycling race 2:03:00 [5]
OCUP #2. Had a much better race then the first one. Definitely need to work on my overall speed. I have lots of endurance and feel very comfortable on the later two laps, but overall speed is slow.

Saturday May 12

Tuesday May 8

Running 1:00:00 [3]
Morning run along the waterfront trail. Threw in 6 repeats of 1 min at full intensity followed by 3 min recovery to get the legs working.

Looks like tomorrow's workout will be skipped as I'm heading up to Sudbury for the day to visit a friend.

Sunday May 6

Cycling 4:50:00 [4] 135 km (2:09 / km)
I knew this one was going to hurt when Josh said to me "I want to head out for 4 hours at a good pace". This means he invites someone else along to ride with us who is much faster and we just try to hold on. Today it was Tim Carelton, who came 9th pro-elite at the last ocup with a flat tire. Ride consisted of me riding from my place up to their spot at Bayview and Eglington. Then we worked our way up to Weston Rd and Highway 9, then back along Keele. When they went to turn for Leslie at 15th sideroad I just kept going back towards home. With the usual sprint for townlines (I got one of 3) and Tim racing up the hills this was a really good ride for me.
C • Nice ride! 4

Saturday May 5

Cycling 2:00:00 [3]
Went up to Albion to play around on the trails today. Great weather and a lot of fun riding the trails. Tried not to go to hard saving a bit for tomorrow's long ride.
