A light run around the park. Probably should have rode the trainer instead. By the end of this run the legs were hurting a lot.

Orienteering race 9:22:12 [4]

Headed down to the Lookout Mountain Ultra with a goal to see if I could pull out a sub-10 hour 50 miler.

Leading up to this race I thought my training had been going really well with the exception of 1 missed long run due to some unforeseen frostbite. However in the last 2 weeks I'd been to India and back (with no training possible) and then pulled something in my back that left me doubled over. I really wasn't sure at all what to expect now.

Throughout the whole race my back was tight, but never got worse than that so that ended up not being an issue. We started the first 2-3 hours in pouring rain. I was warm enough, but miserable given how wet everything was. I realized that I wasn't eating/drinking enough early on because I was hibernating in the rain so I corrected this quickly.

Through the whole race I wasn't feeling great, but I suspect that was because I wouldn't let myself back off the pace given my goal. Heading into 34 mile it was apparent that I had 2 nice blisters on the tops of my baby toes. These definitely hurt as I headed out of the aid station at 34 miles, but after another 2 miles the pain seemed to dull to an ache so I mentally committed myself to really push now as I only had 20km to go.

As I came into the aid station at 38 miles I saw Bent leaving and I ended up catching him as we entered the next section of single track. We said our hello's and he encouraged me to push for a good time, which I was ready to do.

The last 12 miles definitely put me to the limit as I tried to run the gradual up hills on top of everything else. Around the 48 mile mark I really hit the wall and just had to stumble home up the last climb and through the mud to the finish.

Really glad with my time and how this race ended up playing out. Also a big congrats to WandaAR, Bent and Mrs. Gally for also pulling out some good times. Everyone had a great race and the post race Christmas party was a lot of fun as well.

Thanks Dee and Bash for the support today.

Did the Enduro course (CPs 1-10) with Aubrey today. We both had a good time and she got a nice little nap.
