Running long 24:55:00 [4]

Oil Creek 100 miler.

Started out well, temps were cool and a bit of on again off again rain. Did the first lap in 6:25:00 (about that) and was happy with that time. Next 25 km went really well, and then things started to fall apart. The next 25 km (so 75 km to 100 km) all the little niggles and aches and pains came to life in my legs. Hip tightened up, calves, IT band. It was like it moved around my body as I went. I was forced to walk a whole lot more and came in probably 30-40 min after my original estimate (my third lap was 20 min faster). I decided to grab my poles and not stop (trust me there was a lot of debate in my head on those 25 km). The poles helped with the climbs. I started to get back into my grove over the evening and continued on just at a slower pace. Passed a few people here and there, but was never really passed by anyone myself. With 35 km to go mentally I reached the point where it's just about trying to move and get through it (rather than thinking can I get through it?).

Overall happy with my finish, but would have liked to break 24 hours. I think in the future I need a proper 4 months in between 100 milers to recover, rest and train again. I probably won't do 3 again in one year, at least not every year like this year. Was really happy to set a goal for myself for the year and accomplish it.

Stretching (Yoga) 20:00 [1]

Followed by a day full of a lot of dead lifts. Knew it would be a hard day on my body, so purposefully skipped a harder workout since I'm trying to let the body heal up for next weekend.
