Orienteering 7:38:00 [3]

Day two was going to be tougher for us to get as many points. We decided to break out day up into 3 stages, the first two involved long sections of 4-5 controls with nothing but bush to snowshoe through. Then the last section had a few options given our time/distance left. The first two sections went very well for us although we were moving slow as we broke trail the whole way. During section number 2 I decided to amuse Audrey by falling into one of the many rivers we cross up to the knees, I was a little cold after that until we started running on the road again. We ended up clearing our first two sections with 3.5 hours to spare so we were able to go after our agreesive route to the finish. We again moved to the bottom of the course and got the big points we left there the day before, we then had a 5 km run up the snowmobile trails before one last control and the run into the finish.

A little controversy at the end as 43 didn't make a mark on the control (I still think Audrey forgot to punch).

Results had 3 out of the top four on skies, we ended up 2nd overall, 1st co-ed with 1740 visited (1700 scored) points, first place had 1790 and third was 1680. Overall a really good weekend for us.

Snowgaine Day #1

When we got the maps I knew this was going to be a fun 2 days. 40 controls with the start/finish right in the middle of the map, lots of options for 2 days. We decided to tackle the right hand side today. The woods probably had 3 ft of snow in them and it was very soft with the warm weather. Very slow going for those of us on snowshoes, skiers definitely had the advantage. We pushed the whole day trying to run when we could. Even on trails at times we'd be forced to walk because we were sinking through. Cut a few controls out near the bottom of the map and made it home with plenty of time to spare. 950 points for day 1.
