Running race (Snowshoe) 59:48 [5]
I decided early in the winter that I really wanted to try doing a pure snowshoe race. You always see them in the US, or up in Ottawa, but I'm not willing to drive that far just for the race. So when I saw that the Yeti was holding a race in Collingwood I decided to give it a try even though I thought the race fee was a bit steep.
With Bill L. and Martin R on the start line I knew it was a race for third for me. Off the line another guy took off chacing them so I just tried to set a pace I thought I could hold for 10K, but still pushed me. Near the end of the first lap I caught site of the 3rd place male ahead by about 200 m. He was slowing so I thought I might have a chance. Near the start of the 2nd loop we had a big climb out of a valley. I was hoping here I might make up some time, but I think he saw me behind him and held the gap to the top. However 2-3 K later I was starting to get really close. Up another hill and I caught him and I made the decision to push the pace for another K knowing there was a hill coming up. At the top of that hill I turned and I'd put a gap on him. From there I just tried to hold on into the finish.
I really enjoyed the race and probably will look to do another one of these next year. 3rd overall and about 5-6 min behind Logie who took the win with a sprint finish.
