Warm-up 15:00 [1]

10 AM

MTBO 1:21:16 [4]

Poor start to control 1 the turnoff was overgrown as mapped but I did not read the the underlying contours to help me, so overshot the turn off and made up a few of my own short lived tracks. It turned out to be reasonably obvious when you looked in the right place. Next big mistake was on the sixth control when I headed down the bitumen at 90 degrees to the direction I was supposed to. Realised when there was a padock on the left when it should not have been. The same paddock featured in my major blue on the way to the scenic control n. 8 when I missed the left turn and headed of in the opposite direction I needed to. Convinced I had blown it I ambled back to the finish only to find other people had made bigger mistakes leaving me with a 10sec win. I think that is my first State champs of any kind.

Warm-up 15:00 [2]

2 PM

MTBO 41:53 [4]

Very slippery in the pea gravel on the way to the start so I let down the tyres to give me more traction.

No major issues on the day except missing one turn on the first leg. Fortunately was able to work out what happended due to the proximity of the bitumen road. Going past the fourth control also helped confirm my position. Perhaps could have gone harder.

Hockey 1:30:00 [4]

Felt very very flat today - accumulated tiredness or the glass and a half of wine drunk the night before?

8 AM

Cycling (Commute) 37:00 [4] 17.5 km (28.4 kph)

A strong tail wind on the usual hard sections helped the mood considerably. I then managed to sit on a faster back wheel for four km. Then found myself doing the hard work for another rider, who I then managed to shake off. Felt good at the end despite the last 2km into the headwind.
6 PM

Cycling (Commute) 38:20 [4] 17.6 km (27.5 kph)

Harder work going home due to the head wind and numerous stops for traffic lights. Still pleased with the effort

Hockey 1:30:00 [4]

Training game against a younger team. This was the first time we actually looked like a team. Towards the end I finished of a good bit of team play with a goal

Hockey 1:10:00 [4]

Grand Final Game

Started well but failed to score from the many opportunities. Half time 1-0 down. In the second half two silly mistakes in the backline resulted in turnovers and goals against. We recovered 1 with 10m to go when I sloted a ball acros the face of the goal to our player on the opposite post.

Final Score 3-1 down

8 AM

Cycling (Commute) 33:30 [3] 14.5 km (26.0 kph)

Not a lot of enthusiasm with the tiredness from yesterdays extended workout. Easterly headwind did not help.
5 PM

Cycling (Commute) 42:10 [4] 20.75 km (29.5 kph)

Head out to the coast via Ocean Beach to get a few extra kms. What a difference a good tailwind makes. Averaged 35-40 all the way up the coast until had to deal with the mess at Scarborough and then another fast leg to North Beach. Felt good at the end amazing what a difference 8hrs makes

8 AM

Cycling (Commute) 33:20 [4] 14.7 km (26.5 kph)

Doing a reasonable time until Harborne street where inconsiderate cars in a traffic jam forced me to the footpath. Quite satisfying to be still travelling faster than the cars.
5 PM

Cycling 37:10 [4] 17.7 km (28.6 kph)

Working my way back into fitness still a way to go. managed to grab a couple of tails and hung on longer than previously - some progress

Hockey 1:40:00 [4]

Training / Game - O'60's WA side.

Only second proper training session together. Played against an easier side, but we need to get used to each other. Still hard work following up yesterdays effort. The idea of a bike ride after the Eagles game evaporated due to tiredness.

Hockey (Preliminary Final) 1:30:00 [4]

Not the best start to a final by only just making it to the ground in time. No time for a good warmup. Not ideal for a warm day. Unsurprisingly the first 15m were tough. After a short interchange I was back on. In the attacking circle the ball ended on my stick. The resulting goal seemed to be sweetly hit because the goalie did not see it. The second half the opposition scored and it looked like going to extra time, which I was not looking forward to. Two minutes to go I got a goal assist to put us into the grand final. I think I was more pleased at not having to play extra time than actually winning. Pretty tired at the end. Spent the evening flat out on the couch.
Result 2-1 win

8 AM

Cycling (Commute) 36:00 [3] 14.9 km (24.8 kph)

After not much riding for a few weeks, it is so cold, the muscles are stiff and the headwind is real and not just perceived. Strugle with enthusiasm.
10 AM

Cycling 6:00 [3] 1.8 km (18.0 kph)

Commute to physio to get loosened up
5 PM

Cycling (Commute) 38:30 [4] 17.8 km (27.7 kph)

Took the longer way home. Sat behind a youngster riding at 38kph for 2-3k but could not hold due to lack of fitness. Not much left when I got home.

Orienteering (H3 Peterdene) 54:42 [4] 5.5 km (6.0 kph)

Tired after the hockey game and yesterdays flight made this a tough gig. So running early was difficult as my muscles loosed up. However the navigation was unimpared resulting in no mistakes and a reasonable time
