Walking 35:00 [1]

A walk or rather a shuffle from the hotel into the town center of Kirovograd. All the paths are completely iced over so short steps is the go. -14 was the top temp today and -18 overnight. The highlight of the entertainment on a winter's Sunday night is the drawing of the raffle outside the local electronics and electrical shop in the cold. Quite a large crowd had gathered. I think you had to be there to win. Prizes included inane stuff like Notebook bags, however ironically the top prize which I didnt hang around to see drawn was a refrigirator. Which reminds me of the joke about the russian who thought it was so cold outside that he jumps into the refigirator to warm up. With the kind of weather we have here you could imagine it.

Stair running 30:00 [4]

Running up stairs of 9 floor hotel 2 at a time 20 per floor because at -18 it is too cold to exercise outside. Max today in this central town in the Ukraine was -14. The sky clear but the air bitting. Everything is white. Fortunately bought a duvet the day I left from Perth. Average this and Perths temperature would have been more pleasant.

It is also dangerous to walk outside since the snow on the paths and roads are frozen hard. Every one suffles and wobbles along so not to fall over. How you put up with it over a long period beats me.
