Cycling 1:03:00 [2] 14.2 mi (4:26 / mi) +860ft 4:12 / mi

Forgot to put on the HR monitor! I did an easy loop around Magnolia and Discovery Park. The legs still feel a little sluggish.

We went mountain biking at Grand Ridge. The body and legs felt MUCH better at lower elevation. I climbed pretty well, but still felt a bit of fatigue.

Flat ride to the east of Boulder. Great roads, nice views of the front range. It was an easy zone 2 recovery ride. The legs were definitely spent and heavy. While we thought we would do one more hill ride tomorrow, the forecast doesn't look good. So, we are going to pack up the bikes this afternoon. Turns out this is just fine --- there is not one more hill ride in these legs!

Cycling 3:03:00 [3] 28.3 mi (6:28 / mi) +3600ft 5:46 / mi

We rode up to Gold Hill and back down Sunshine Canyon. This climb eventually goes to dirt. The dirt is no problem. It has been compacted and there is no loose gravel. It was in great shape. Coming down there was some loose gravel, but it was fine. This was no problem on the cyclocross bike. Not sure I would have loved this down hill on the Cervelo, but ridden in the opposite direction would have been fine.

The legs were barking! We both felt exhauted. I started out feeling pretty good on this climb. Arn was squaking that he was tired and empty. As we got higher, this got tougher. While the dirt wasn't a whole lot steeper, it felt like a wall. Great ride! The general store in Gold Hill does not open until 11am. There were no other services.

Cycling 1:25:00 [1] 16.3 mi (5:13 / mi)
ahr:100 max:137

This was an easy recovery ride after the ride yesterday. We decided to jump on the bikes and check out neighborhoods. So, it was a slow cruise around looking at streets, houses, sight lines, etc. We couldn't get over the number of huge bike lanes and signage for cyclists.

This was an AWESOME ride! First, there were more cyclists than cars. Second, the views were unbelieveable and the roads were sweet. We rode up to Jamestown. This part of the climb was 4-6%. After Jamestown, it gets much steeper....9-13% sustained. This climbs up to the Peak to Peak Road. We took this down to Lyons. We took a side road (road to Raymond). This was fantastic cycling along the creek. From Lyons, we took 36 backt o Boulder. We jumped off of this onto Old Stage and rode up and over to Lee Hill. The traffic on 36 was not bad. We saw lots of riders doing this loop in the other direction as the grades up are not as steep. There were still lots of cyclists headed our direction.

I did the climbs in Z4/Z5 until I grew too tired with the altitude. Climbing 9-13% grades at 7500 feet was a grunt! The views made it all worthwhile. It was truly heady.

Z4 = 40:31
Z5 = 13:48 (this was when a woman passed me, didn't reply to my "hello", so I hung on her wheel for a good section of this climb....turns out getting "mad" is good motivation. I found a whole pack of women that I could have done this ride with; they were friendly and our pacing was very compatible)
