Cycling 28:05 [2] 5.72 mi (12.2 mph)

Commute. On the way home, some dude on an ill-fitting brand new showroom road bike weaved through me and others, hammering away at his aluminum miracle. So for you, I was that guy that easily reeled you in three blocks later. Hats off for picking it back up and hanging off my wheel, but did you ever look tired.

I guess it *is* fun being that guy on occasion. Especially on a 24 year old, beat up Raleigh.

Note

Long interview with Dr. Changshan at the Moshikou Hospital of Traditional Medicine. Beautiful campus. Dr. Changshan's office a spacious wood floored affair. A man in the corner practicing calligraphy.

Strange that Changshan basically gave me no physical exam. Didn't exam my tongue, sclera or that awesome 5 minute pulse taking seen so often in TCM. He sat us down, gave us tea, and turned his computer towards me to show directory after directory of successful case studies. His entire treatment regimen rests on a single supplement: A daily 4.5 gram dose of Yin Xie Ping.

No dietary changes. Weird. I just confirmed this on the clinic's site [via google translate] where he states that dietary considerations are "perhaps an excuse to make up for poor treatment". He even offered me a cigarette and laughed when I told him that it was bad for his lungs. Everyone who actually has psoriasis and pays attention at all knows that diet is huge. Tobacco being a significant trigger.

Anyhow, it's a six month course of treatment and costly, about $115 / month. I only found one TCM study. It was co-authored by the man himself, looked at only 60 patients and published to the TCM choir. This is what is so frustrating about this aspect of TCM. It's opaque.

I'm not going to do it. I can't sign on with a "drink this" and you'll be cured.

Off to the Traditional Chinese Medicine clinic [bjmskzy.com] tomorrow for another round of treatment for my resident bitch, psoriasis. My first treatment being in Taiwan, to good effect.

It's to the point that I can't put it off any longer. I have the same coverage that I have had since we arrived in China [about 20-30%] but since the weather has changed here it's gotten considerably worse.

Earlier this month [within the span of a week or so] the temperatures dropped to the upper 70's / low 80's and the humidity dropped into the 60-70% range. My skin was almost immediately dryer, scalier, more inflamed and irritated.

I took some baseline pictures on 08/19 [before the temperature changes] and I will again tomorrow before I go forward with the clinic's plan. The clinic in Taiwan gave me an herbal supplement and a simple list of don'ts. I'm curious as to what this clinic will propose and wierdly enough hoping for some acupuncture. A friend forwarded the prescription that I received in Taiwan and they were all, "meh" about it so who knows. I'm certain, however, that they will be on my case about the coffee. Sigh.

In the past I kept the daily details in a text file but since I'm on attackpoint anyhow I might as well put it here. Apologies if you've stumble onto the log for workout data. There is more minutiae to come. The good outcome being my research project for the nursing program in Tucson.
