Orienteering race 1:01:28 [5] 6.9 km (8:54 / km) +270m 7:27 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Croeso Day Four, Margam Country Park
not a middle distance, by a long stretch, suspected as much from the amount of climb, good stuff in the beech wood, if slippy, but got fed up with it after that, glad I gave it something though because today's score helped me pip Jason Howell for 3rd 4th overall

Orienteering race 54:29 [5] 7.92 km (6:53 / km) +110m 6:26 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Croeso Day Four, Mynydd Llangynidr
treated this with respect, spiked every control but for #10 where I overshot on the short stuff, had plenty of running left (which means I didn't work hard enough)

3rd, 8mins (!) behind Simon Hunter, 2 behind Richard Barrett

Note
(rest day)

knee very tender and bruised, but it didn't swell so should be fit for Thursday, feeling pretty stiff and low energy - as you'd expect

4 PM

Core Conditioning 25:00 [0]

KV's core-conditioning, lower body and hip stretches (stiff in hips, quads and lower back)

(feared I'd be unable to place weight on left knee, but the bruise wasn't located where the pressure fell)

Orienteering race 1:16:55 [5] 3.39 km (22:41 / km) +380m 14:32 / km
shoes: Inov8 Oroc 340

Croeso Day Three, Margam Forest North
probably should have retired after a 5mins miss at #2 and bang on the knee at #3, slipping all over the place over the next couple of controls, tough terrain, only started to enjoy it (?) after the road crossing, and more so once I caught Dai Bedwell and my minute man at the start of the long leg, a waste of energy really

Orienteering race 35:53 [5] 5.6 km (6:24 / km) +60m 6:05 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Croeso Day 2, Kenfig Middle
pretty tidy run but it wasn't as challenging as it should have been, faded after the 20min mark, although I finished strong (as is customary)

8th (M45), 6mins behind Bill, but 49s ahead of Frostbite (yey!)

Event: CROESO 2016

2 PM

Orienteering race 58:06 [5] **** 8.54 km (6:48 / km) +150m 6:15 / km
shoes: Inov8 X-Talon 212

Croeso 1, Kenfig
resorted to the magnifier rather than glasses because of the rain but still couldn't pull enough information off the map, took some time getting to grips with terrain/map, the vegetation in particular, also persistently overestimated how far I had travelled, expecting the control site to appear sooner, odd; physically I was in good form, although I started to feel sick around the turn

#1 hesitant, then overshot [50]
#4 dithered over which paths to follow [20]
#7 started looking far too early [150]
#8 hesitant, thinking it would be closer [20]
#9 didn't need to climb the ridge [20]
#11 attacked to earlier, underestimated the size of the hill beyond [30]
#15 didn't climb directly enough [20]

10th (M45), 9mins behind Bill, same behind Clive on M50
