needed a top ten finish to protect/improve on my 12th overall so decided to go for it, but was not in the slot from the start (pulled away by other controls at #1 and #2), decided to follow Matthew Gooch when he caught me at #3 - just for kicks - blew it completely on #5 (rough compass aka winging it), fun though

Scottish 6 Days, Craig a Barns
one ghastly error, my worst since 2010 and possibly ever, three mistakes really first because of a large unmapped rhodo in (I think) an unmapped re-entrant - I assumed it was I who was wrong not the map and couldn't work it out, then after returning to attackpoint I didn't go far enough along the ridge and searched again too low down; finally and unluckily when I climbed the hill I passed just north of the control, the flag was on the ground and sited (slightly) higher on the hill than the centre of the circle

(studying an old map on the way back the re-entrant marked is higher up the hill and only one contour, better representation IMO)

didn't race after that but had fun crashing thru the fight to #8 disturbing a deer after the first 30m it was almost light green

39th, 21mins behind the Chas machine
