Thursday Apr 28, 2005 #

Swimming 1:00:00 [3] 2.4 km (25:00 / km)

Late getting to the pool, but I got in a good swim.

Wednesday Apr 27, 2005 #

Swimming 1:20:00 [3] 3.2 km (25:00 / km)

Sore right shoulder. I suspect I'm not rolling my shoulders enough.

Cycling 1:00:00 [3] 25.0 km (2:24 / km)

I braved the evening commuter traffic to cycle out to Scarborough for some orienteering. I made surprisingly good time considering all the lights and cars. It was a fairly intense ride, sprinting between lights.

Orienteering 55:00 [2] ***

TOC Park Nights: Morningside Park
11 controls. I had problems with 3 and 4. I gave up on 3, but I think I was really close. I was a little flustered after that, and took a while finding 4.
Control 9 was about 10 feet off the ground in a tree. I stood beneath it for a couple of minutes before I noticed it.

Stretching 20:00 [1]

I had planned on a bike ride, but I got home way too late. Only time for a quick stretch before bed.
Also, met with an orthotics specialist today, and I'm having orthotics made.

Hiking 1:15:00 [2] 3.9 km (19:14 / km) +213m 15:06 / km

Hiked up Mt. Jo. Short Hike. Rained a lot, but it was pretty warm.

Hiking 4:00:00 [2] 10.1 km (23:46 / km) +700m 17:39 / km

The weather cleared after lunch and we decided to drive out to Giant Mt. Unfortunately, there were some road closures due to the heavy rain. We turned back and decided to hike Mt. Cascade and Mt. Porter. The view from Mt.Cascade was unbelieveable. There was a little bit of hail during our descent, but it was sunny for most of the hike.

Hiking 7:00:00 [2] 17.81 km (23:35 / km) +1132m 17:54 / km

Hiked up Mt. Wright and Mt. Algonquin from the ADK Loj. Descended Mt. Algonquin to Lake Colden and returned to the trail head via Avalanche Pass.
The descent from Mt.Algon. was particularly treacherous.
Also, this was my first time using crampons. There was a fair bit of ice above 3500ft, and they came in handy.

Stretching 30:00 [1]

I was planning on an easy run, but my ITB was really sore after stretching.

Monday Apr 18, 2005 #

Note

Appt. with the physiotherapist (Mindy) today for patellofemoral syndrome.
Summary:
-ITB and hip flexor very tight.
-quads are strong - not contributing to pfs
-orthotics not working. high arches are leading to excessive supination, which isn't being corrected
Recommendations:
-continue stretching
-start using a foam roller to stretch out ITB
-have orthotics reassessed and possibly modified
