Orienteering in the Ganaraska Forest. This was a very challenging race. The weather was amazing. A perfect autumn day. I made a mess of many of the controls in the first half, especially CP 1 and 5. It was nice to run alone for most of the race.

While Laura was off at a conference at U of O, I headed out to Gatineau Park. It rained lightly all morning, and was foggy well into the afternoon, which meant I couldn't enjoy any of the scenic lookouts. The running was fantastic, though. This entry was my first run of the day, which started from P7.

Parked at the end of a dead end road (swamp rd.?), and ran a loop that included some small lakes and a nice waterfall. I ended the run at Mackenzie King's estate. I wandered around the grounds. The ruins were quite interesting.

I had planned on buying lunch, but the local restaurants were expensive. Skipped lunch and had one last run. Ran harder. I'm not used to hills like these. Just a guess at distances. I may have overestimated. It is hard to judge distance with so much climb.

To/from Hilton falls. I got a flat on the way home. I've never taken longer changing a flat. The hubs on both my wheels need work. The front is loose and the rear is grinding a bit.

GHO NAOC training at Hilton Falls. Botched control 8. I had to bail out to a trail to relocate. The last four controls on the new map went quite well.

My map of Guelph shows a trail heading west along the river out to a bird sanctuary. Paul and I tried to find it, but gave up. Instead we headed east along the eramosa river and found a really cool trail that took us out past Victoria. From there we headed south into the arboretum before heading home.
