Cycling 4:45:00 [2] 110.0 km (2:35 / km)

No tent made for an early start in the morning. The ride along the Lake Erie shoreline was very nice. Much better than the slog through Cambridge and Brantford. I don't know what the temperature was, but I was really feeling the heat in the last hour. I had to take a break near Fonthill just to get out of the sun for a bit.

I think I'll be feeling this trip for a little while. Neither Paul nor I have done much cycling this year.

Cycling 5:00:00 [2] 125.0 km (2:24 / km)

My brother, Paul, and I are both currently unemployed/retired, so we thought we'd go on a short bike trip on the cheap. Paul doesn't have a rack on his bike, so I carried all the gear. We crossed our fingers and left the tent at home.

We cycled south from Guelph to Port Dover. A pretty bland ride south of Brantford. We were fighting the wind for the last hour into Port Dover. About 3 or 4 breaks. You know you're eating well when 50% of your recommended Vitamin C intake comes from a bag of potato chips.

Port Dover is pretty boring. Why do the bikers love it so much? After dinner we continued west along Lake Erie past Nanticoke. We reached the small town of Selkirk after dark, and slept out behind the Selkirk Library. I don't think anyone noticed us. There didn't seem to be too many bugs, but I awoke with dozens of bites.

Ankle ok. Still tender. Hurts if I turn it just so. Decided I won't be "turning it just so".

Cycling 1:00:00 [2]

Ride around Guelph with Laura. We stopped for dinner at a cool pub on the south side of town.

Ankle feeling much better today. It was painful yesterday, especially when descending stairs. Iced it a lot. Might try running on it later this week. Bad timing for a silly injury like this. July was one of my lightest months for running, and I was looking forward to running more this month. Also, Laura and I are heading to Calgary next week for a little vacation. We're hoping to get in some hiking.

Paddling 2:00:00 [1]

Great weather all weekend. Nice to spend so much time continuously outside. We brought tents but didn't use them.

Unfortunately, I rolled my ankle pretty good while carrying a heavy pack. My own fault. I was wearing sandals and it was dark.
