Swimming 15:00 [2]

I've been taking cold showers all month to prepare for today, my first swim in Lake Ontario. It was cold. I was expecting to hop in and hop out, but I managed 15 minutes. In addition to exceeding my expectations it was quite enjoyable, but I was quite chilled afterwards. Last year my limiting factor was the 'ice cream headache' feeling, but I wore a swim cap today which seemed to help and maybe all those cold showers helped too. If they didn't help, they have at least lowered my heating and water costs. :)

MEC 10 km race. I didn't intend to do this race, but Paul was in town and brothers like to compete! :)

Very flat and a great temperature for running, but we had quite a bit of wind to contend with. Started off with Paul and Scott. Then ran with Scott for most of the race. I felt in control the whole time, and I'm happy with the time.

I kept to the roads. I'm sure the trails are a mess. I took north shore west, north on snake road, east through Waterdown, and home via King.

I was planning on going further, but around 8 km I came across an unconscious man on the side walk. Another passerby asked if I knew CPR. He was breathing, so I didn't have to do much. Strangely the other fellow then asked me if he should call EMS. Why would he delay? While waiting, the unconscious man started to become more lucid but then suddenly had a seizure. I tried to protect his head, and thankfully it didn't last long and he regained consciousness within minutes afterwards. It turns out the man just tripped on the curb while walking and fell very hard on his head. By chance a doctor heading to work stopped, and assessed him before the paramedics arrived. Apparently seizures are very common after a hard hit to the head. A bit of excitement for me, and thankfully it seemed like the man was going to be fine.
