Orienteering 5:30:00 [3]
shoes: Leona Divide #2

NavStock Raid
I think this was one of my most successful raids. This was my first time racing with Laura, and clearly I shouldn't have waited this long to run with her. We were both a little worried about the race, since we haven't done much exercise in the last couple of months. It was probably a good thing to be worried, since we were very cautious with pacing and in that heat you wouldn't want to go too fast. We did a little bit of running up until the matrix, and walked everything afterwards.

It would be interesting to know how the top teams tackled the rogaine section. If I were uber-fit, I think I would have started with the north loop.

In other news, it is time for both Laura and I to get new compasses. We both had huge bubbles today (heat related?). We've had small bubbles for a while, but the compasses are almost useless now. I couldn't walk on a bearing let alone run. Thankfully, you really only need a compass to orient your map in this terrain. Our compasses are made by Moscow, and Laura has only had her compass for a year. Maybe we should consider a new brand. Any retired orienteers looking to sell a compass?

NavStock Middle at Schumacher Mt.
A good day on the navigation side for me. I fumbled CP 2. I should have chosen a more conservative route. I had a round about route to CP 4, but other than that I only had the usual hesitations and small errors. I walked all the uphills, and was moving pretty slow everywhere else despite feeling like I was working hard. I wore my fancy new shoes, but forget to tape the laces and had to re-tie my laces 4 times. I didn't turn my watch on until after CP 1, so the time is approximate.

NavStock Sprint
I felt really good until about CP 6, and then I had to slow down and even walk a bit. I wandered a bit around CP 9 before finding the control, and I made some other mistakes around CPs 11 and 12 too. It would be interesting to know what routes were used for CP1. My route would have been different, if I hadn't heard the warnings of poison ivey near the start.

Cycling 50:00 [2]

Cycled into work this morning. Calves are sore from Wednesday. I think I'll cheat on the way home, and take the Go Train. Expensive, but I already feel too worn out for the weekend.

TOC park night in High Park. High Park was teeming with recreation tonight: baseball, soccer, cycling, running, roller skiing, ...
This weekend is going to be tough. I was already hurting by the end of this short run. My legs were stiff, especially hip flexors, hamstrings and gluts. First time out in o-shoes. They felt ok, but certainly made me look geekier than usual.

Cycling 1:45:00 [2]

Commute. It was raining, but I enjoy riding in the rain when it is warm. However, I don't like changing a flat in the rain. I guess it has been a while since I last changed a flat. After taking the tube off the rim, I realized that my 3 (!) spare tubes were the wrong size and I was missing the tube of glue from my patch kit. Luckily, it was a slow leak and I managed to get to work with a couple of stops to pump up the tire. Unfortunately, 10 minutes into the the ride home, the tube stopped holding air. I managed to limp home using one of the smaller tubes.
