Orienteering 19:00:00 [3] 50.0 km (22:48 / km)
shoes: Saucony Omni 4
Well, I have quite a few thoughts about this "race", but I'm not sure where to start.
I think I like "rogaines". As someone who is not a very good runner/orienteer, but who likes hiking, the minimally competitive atmosphere and easy navigation makes this a fun sport. And evveryone there is quite friendly.
I expected this race to be a living hell, but it was actually quite fun.
Things I would do again:
1. Bring Mick, he did some amazing navigation. There were points during the night when he was babbling incoherently but still spiking controls.
2. Bring Paul, he's a machine.
3. I think I brought enough food, and drank enough water/electrolytes, which is usually a problem for me.
4. Hike (rather than run) most of the terrain.
If I had to do it again, I think I would add in more loops and plan to head back to camp for at 2-3 hours.
It is interesting to hear the range in opinions of how hard the navigation was. Some people thought it was quite hard, while others thought it was quite easy. I thought that all of the features were pretty obvious...at least, they weren't as subtle and challenging as some orienteering maps.
