Out to Lakeview. Saw an old single prop plane take off. Then up to Lake Brockway, then back home. Went during MSU basketball game to reduce traffic.

Dropped off Escape for oil change and walked on the nice Muskegon River path by the rapids of Big Rapids

Confirmed: 3/3 cars leak something. (Escape: trans fluid from axles, F150: axle grease from axle, Mini: coolant from whoknowswhere)

Easy around the block

Note

Brought bike with to ride. Luckily I locked it to the rack, since a small screw broke and the bike was bouncy loose and would have fallen off if not locked. Grrrrr. Not entirely sure I have the tools to fix the rack, so I'm not entirely sure if or how the bike is coming back home....

Note

So I sat next to this really nice, witty lady on the bus ride to the box canyon hike at the Pig. It turns out she was Sharon Crawford, orienteering royalty.

Note

The Pig was so much fun and so inspirational, one wonders about something like:

2016: B meet. S: EMU, L: Bishop, M: Chilson

as a warm up, doing as many A meet level things as we could

then target something like:

2018: A meet. S: mysterious other U that looks promising but with which we do not have a current relationship, L: TBD new Oakland Co, M: TBD new Oakland Co

Then use the DNR people ("We can bring 100-400 people to the park, but need unprocessed lidar from the county") to help work with the county with a huge population and fewer maps than the A2 area.

At the banquet, I can't believe dinner conversation welled up right in time to obscure the punch line at the next table over. "If SMOC ever hosted an A meet again, I'd................." Curious what he'd do!

Flying Pig Middle at Carter Caves

Igor wisely tricked me into running strong at the start - he was only two minutes ahead, so if I could catch up, I could sit and kick for the win.

Naturally, that mean I stuffed up #1 by three minutes, missing my bearing again! and hitting #8.

ARGH! Race ruined right at the start. :( But wait...it's M35! I can still bang this thing out.

Off slowly to #2, then found me mojo.

But, foiled again by big long "side hill", forgetting to mind my pace, undershooting, then dropping down to the wrong bag, then back up, then back down finally to the right one. Argh! But wait, it's M35!

Decent enough all the way to #19. I paused for a few seconds to confirm I was in the right spot, which looks to be enough. Maybe right was faster as well. Igor wasn't sure.

I didn't make a mistake to #20, the fast guys are just still too fast and flew up the hill.

Igor and I tied for fastest in the brutal uphill chute spanning four 5 m contours.

Hooray! I cracked an hour. This is great redemption for the beat down I received in the Canadian Champs middle in Hamilton.

Igor wins 3 for 3 in our heads up battle, but I'm in M35, so I got second, woo woo!

After the race I walked down to the gorgeous giant arch, which was amazing. Thanks for Minium and the nice lady hyping it on the PA so I made it down there.
