Very fun course. This time with Cris. Stated clear distance was in the 18ish mile range; I did 22 last year (granted, flatter), so I thought we had a chance, plus go big or go home.
We were ahead for the first 1.5 hrs, then a little more like parity at 2 hrs (lost a few minutes not thinking a tarp was special, hahaha), then quickly started to slide on the challenging Dead Lake portion, especially with the slow travel through 62.
I thought there was an outside chance of clearing the east, but we moved too slowly and had a couple bobbles...notably on easier ones in thicker vegetation where I didn't give them proper respect.
Painful to drop the NE five, but necessary as we only had like 15 minutes to spare. Just need a bit more run power from 1.5-3 hrs to not get quite so far behind, and then a lot more hill power and speed walk power.
25 of the 30 marked, all three of the Nain Rouge c. We had a good guess on the "small island" one, so we were sure to hit it.
10/10, would race again.

As I was already soaked, I was easily cajoled into picking up the water control, as in the one in Half-moon Lake. Two beads were in the water, but it was clear and the poles easily fished them up, phew. I did not want to lean in to grab them by hand!
