Sunday Sep 30

Run 1:22:08 [3]
ahr:141
...Kari and I ran in the rain.....actually quite nice...we tried to run a bit harder than normal long run pace...I started out stronger but after an hour Kari is ready to go and I am looking for the clubhouse....my ankle and legs tighten up and she is ready to go for another hour....

Saturday Sep 29

Friday Sep 28

Mt Bike 37:32 [3]
ahr:142
....one lap of Leb without the expert loop with Kari....includes beginner loop....pushed and had the fastest we have gone at Leb...love this trail....it swoops and dives and we got a great workout....should have done the expert loop and gone longer...next time...

Thursday Sep 27

Run 33:26 [3]
ahr:134
ran on single track trails...did 6 hill repeats of 1:40 that took my HR up and over 160.....I need to do a bit more structured hill repeats of intervals if I want to get a bit of speed back...
weight machine 25:14 [1]
abs and circuit with Kari in apt weight room...

Wednesday Sep 26

Run 31:49 [3]
quick trail run with Kari...
Mt Bike 40:31 [3]
ahr:124
...did one lap of N Wirth loop and 1 loop of South loop.....boy, the storm winds did a number on the trail at Wirth...fallen trees every where...my one loop had quite a bit Hike a bike to it.....I had to carry my bike around at least 7 different places............oh well, just makes for a more adventurous workout....I wonder how long Minneapolis parks will take to get the trees cleared?........

Saturday Sep 22

Run 2:19:19 [4]
ahr:152
Trail Loppet...great event....Kari had a tough day feeling under the weather so we dialed it back and used it for training....they added more to the course this year to make the course a true 13.1....they also found some more single track trail that I did not know existed...a great, very hilly course that is 90% trails and alot of variety......great weather also....

Friday Sep 21

Note
a quick summary of our trip out east....I really dug the mt hikes, what a great way to spend the day....hiking and scrambling mountains...its a great low impact workout....my HR average for the total 8 hour round trip was 115....its like a low paced adventure race....(I think we averaged 134 for the 7 hour Adventure O, yes I am a HR geek)...and you put yourself in some amazing places...

Acadia was a great place to take quicker summit hikes with many peaks and routes to choose....we did two summit day hikes on a couple days....lots of variety and you can plan what you want to do depending on your time and evergy level...the Precipice trail was only .8 miles but gained 1000 feet...it was like a scramble most of the way up....and it had some places that gave you the heebee geebees due to exposure...

here...take a look:

what a cool adventure....

Mt Katahdin was epic for us....just a great adventure...sure, we arent big time climbers and perhaps we are easily impressed but it was awesome to be on all fours scrambling up a fairly steep slide feeling like you are climbing at the top of the world....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8pMY4XqAUo&mode=re...=

Mt Mansfield involved some scrambling also....we did it a day after it rained but we had a good day and were glad we could go to the top...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQkCfslkJnc&mode=re...

Im sure we have more of this in our future.....Longs Peak? Mt Ranier? definately Pikes Peak because my Brother lives there....

Thursday Sep 20

weight machine 30:35 [1]
weight circuit with Kari....need to make this a habit...havent managed that yet....but I aloways feel more "in shape" with some resistance training...

Wednesday Sep 19

Run 32:07 [3]
run around some of the shore of Medicine Lake with Kari....looking forward to the Trail Loppet on Saturday...

Tuesday Sep 18

Run 42:07 [3]
ran the streets of Auburn Ny....great temps with no wind...legs felt totally dead but warmed up after 15 minutes...

Sunday Sep 16

Run 1:51:33 [3]
ahr:139
back home Saturday evening.....Kari and I ran mainly singletrack trails in Wirth including all of the mt bike trails....our endurance seens to be good with all the recent long mt hikes but my ankle gets pretty sore after an hour....we have the trail loppet half marathon this weekend so I will continue to work around it....

Friday Sep 14

Run 37:23 [3]
Kari and I ran the "cliff walk" by HUGE mansions on the ocean in Newport Rhode Island....one owned by the Vanderbilt family....Newport RI is a cool historic town....

Monday Sep 10

Hike 3:36:12 [3] 4.6 mi (46:59 / mi)
ahr:120
Kari and I hiked Mt Mansfield in Stowe Vt,...2800' of elevation gaine in 4.6 miles, the highpoint in Vermont....wet from rain the day before so we hiked up and back on the Long trail....nice summit scramble with one slightly scary section 20 meters from the summit but we got to the top and down in a good pace....the view from the top was blocked a bit from all the clouds but it was still awesome...

average 23.06% grade up to summit...
C • ATB 1

Sunday Sep 9

Run 38:02 [3]
Kari and I ran the paved rec trail in Stowe Vt.....our original plan was to summit Mt Mansfield but rain mid morning spoiled our plans....we decided to hike it early Monday morning.....legs felt tired from Katahdin but they were coming around at the end...

Friday Sep 7

Hike 7:57:57 [2] 11.0 mi (43:27 / mi) +1155m 20:21 / km
ahr:115
Epic hike up to Maine's highpoint on remote Mt Katahdin in Baxter State park...our toughest hike ever....11 mile hike with 3800' of elevation gain....we started early and decided to forgo the infamous "knifes edge" route in favor of the easier Saddle trail that was still a significant challenge...lots of "all fours" boulder scrambling up the slide to the long ridge that is Katahdin....we got to the top in 4:05 and took in a view that was incredible at the top of Maine..at the summit we met some thru hikers that were just completing the entire AT....the entire trail was exremely rocky and required constant rock hopping and concentration...I made it without tweaking my ankle...again we kept a good pace and were one of the first to summit and return back down that day....a long and satisfying hike...

13.26% average grade on the way up...

Wednesday Sep 5

Hike 1:24:58 [1]
ahr:109
Hiked Dorr Mt in Arcadia National Park...
Hike 1:55:35 [1] 3.7 mi (31:14 / mi)
ahr:104
Hiked the Beehive and looped over to Gorham peak back down to a hike along the water to Sand Beach in Acadia National park....the Beehive is another scrample/climb of 500' with some exposure but aided by rungs and ladders...

750 ft of elevation gain for the hike of the two summits....

Tuesday Sep 4

Hike 1:43:00 [2]
ahr:112
Hiked/climbed/scrambled up the Precipice in Arcadia Nat Park with Kari..gained just under 1000' in only .8 miles...more of a climb/scramble than a hike......amazing and scary....more later...
Hike 1:53:24 [2] 4.4 mi (25:46 / mi)
ahr:114
Hiked up Cadillac Mt and back in Acadia....4.4 mile round trip with 1530' elevation gain....great views...

13.6% average grade on the way up....

Sunday Sep 2

Hike 2:00:00 [1]
Walked around Boston with 8lb pack....freedom trail and speed hike up Bunker Hill monument....walked for 5 hours put logged 2...
