| Hiked the Red course and stayed with my "no running" restriction reinforced under the watchful eye of IH...the great thing about O'ing is you can get a good workout without running a step....my heart rate averaged 136 (my slong slow run heart rate) for the event...decided to do Red to see how much difference running helps as opposed to going slow and hiking....I think I would have been 30 minutes faster by running.....if you think about it its amazing that you can still get close to your running times by hiking O.....
despite the concentration on hiking my navigation was sub par...never got in to the map in a solid way...and WOB is usually good for me.... I missed 3,8 completely and reattacked to get them....had trouble in the circle finding the controls.... I agree with pfc on the veg.....I never remember WOB being so scrubby...some sections were just "not that fun"..... here are some thoughts to open up a discussion.... -I thought the controls were hung to low....I like the philosophy that if you find the feature you should be able to see the flag...I was standing 5 meters from some flags and did not see them....got the tree one because I saw the flagging tape first and was prepared to re hang the flag becasue I thought it was hanging on the ground.... -I lost confidence in the mapped vegetation colors....seemed very little of it was accurate...(I know this is a ton of work and it is fair for everyone) -this could have been me, (shocking as that may seem) but some of the contours did not make sense to me.... -I am not much for scrubby courses or routes where you have to go through thorns...just not my cup of tea.....I like faster open courses that keep you moving... thoughts? | ||

| Kari and I hiked the trails at Spring Park Reserve near Hastings....turf trails and some decent hills just made this loggable....my criteria is I must average 100 bpm or above to call it a workout........did not have my heart monitor but I would guess I was right at the minimum average....

| unlogged 50 minute walk with Kari after getting back from an unexpected overnight trip to the hospital post surgery....
apparently, going under for surgery can be hard on the digestive system which can lead to heart attack like symptoms....pain/tighness in the chest....went to the ER on Monday and they admitted me to do all the testing to make sure it was not my heart....the result was I had a very extensive physical and all my numbers look great.....boy, I am curious to see what type of bill this whole incident generated.... | ||

| mark me down as a big fan of the U of M Street Scramble type event!...moving quickly and doing the ins and outs around the campus was intense!...Kari reading important clues and recording the info while I figured a way out and around and somtimes down..........loved the straight out running this event afforded...we managed to stay up with some hot shots (Ian and Stephen R) but eventually could not keep pace....still did a good time for us in 50:52....confirmed for me that a section like this on an Urban AR would be a hoot..it might not be everyones cup of tea but mark me down as a fan....thanks to Todd for setting a fun challeging course...with nice map modifications that added to the strategy and quick route picking.... | ||
