Swimming 6:13 [4]
swim at Buffalo Tri Sprint.....managed to execute a good swim time while weaving and bobbing around all the slower swimmers....I started in the last wave, wave 20........I had people to negotiate the entore .25 mile....I suspect it might have been a bit short....
C • short 3
Triathlon Bike 39:03 [4] 13.0 mi (3:00 / mi)
....windy bike....just averaged 20 mph and was :40 slower than last years split......a little disappointed in that....still passed people like crazy....794 people in the race.........
Run 22:28 [4] 3.0 mi (7:29 / mi)
....3 mile run off the bike...after losing some time on the bike a made up and then some with my run.....split was 1:40 faster than last year.....cool weather made for fast running and I took advantage of it....accurate 3 miles?...I doubt it...a bit short I would guess....
transitions race 3:21 [4]
ahr:168
two transitions...total time was 1:11:03...1:11:32 last year.....felt pretty good about it............
Note
76th O/a our of 731 at the Buffalo Tri Sprint...12th of 95 in Men 40-49.....

Orienteering 44:59 [4] ***
ahr:154
Score O and Lake Elmo....Kari and I headed out and got 23,1,21,8,22,24,14,15,17,6,12,11,9,4...although we had written on our control card that we got 13 controls we actually got 14...I had a good navigation day and enjoyed the openess of the course.... the only mistakes of note were going 23,1,21...would have been better going 1,23,21..probably lost a minute there and running by 9 on the ridge...it was off the side a bit in thick vegetation...lost :30 there......I keep trying to be conservative on my "get back" plan but once again we were left to run our guts out to get to the finish before time ran out....made it by a second....I think we maximized of efforts and did the best score that we were capable of....

Wednesday May 30

trail running 32:45 [3]
1 loop of wrth mt bike trail on foot with Kari....ran easy legs felt good....
Hike 21:12 [1]
...warm up hike over to mt bike loop and back....

Tuesday May 29

Triathlon Bike 19:46 [2]
..took the tri bike out for a quick spin with the race wheels on.....making sure things were working right for this sundays sprint tri.....my swimming and running are ok..the question is: can riding only a mountain bike all Spring prepare me for a 14 mile bike leg in a sprint triathlon?....look for answer soon....I think biking at threshold may hurt.....

Monday May 28

Run race (23:10) 23:15 [5]
Brain Kraft 5K ...wanted to run sub 24 and beat that significantly.....saw Ziggyr at the start and we agreed to run together and pace each other to sub 24....Z took off like a scalded dog at the start proving that some people start even faster than me...strategy was to go out fast...settle in and hang tough the 2nd mile and go fast enough on the final mile to make the goal....

first mile rolls around and we are at 7 flat and I am thinking "boy!...thats a bit fast" but also excited to jump out in front of my goal by a good bit...I eased up on Ziggyr on the 2nd mile and felt good that number two came in at 7:38...now its just a matter of holding on and I felt good that I would not likely need to suffer extrodinarily to come in under 24..I had pulled ahead of Ziggyr by mile 2 and just tried to maintain.. ..third mile came in at 7:48 and I finished with a 23:15 and very satisfied with the effort.....ZiggyR was in 10 secinds later and both were happy to be sub 24....Kari came in at 26:39 after deciding not to race hard but still managed a firm pace....

it feels good to set a goal and meet it.......should be able to run 8:10-15/mile at Sprint triathlons...

Paddling 1:55:34 [2]
paddled 7 miles of Minnehaha creek with Kari from 54th street in Edina to Nokomis in the much maligned yellow duckie Sevylors..say what you will but it handled the lower water well and with some finesse you can handle the twisting creek pretty well.....first time doing this....really enjoyed the sights from the creek...gives you a whole new perspective...
