...Afterhours ski trail near Brule with Kari.....weirdest snow I have skied on in a long time...32 F plus, fresh snow on top of wet snow turned the track into mash potato/snow cone skiing with little to no glide....with no grooming we skied in skied in tracks that compacted on each stride and required double poling on down hills.....last time i saw this kind of thing was in Sweden at the Vasaloppet where I had to classic ski 90K the hard way...(where I promptly puked with 20K to go and finished in the dark to torches lighting the way)...this time we could quit after some slow K's and go back and admire their intelligently built warming hut...(recessed warming lights in the ceiling with a timer, i felt like fast food fries...a curtain rod and drapes in the corner for economical changing area)....nice trails that I will come back and ski some day with better conditions....

Up in Duluth/Superior for the holidays with Kari family....time to try some new trails.....Lester Park after a drizzly rain....we almost did not ski but I knew we would regret it if we didnt.......we did a quick change in the car and hit the lighted trails with some warm evening conditions and despite the slow snow we had a good time doing 3 loops.....

Wirth Lake-Front Nine loops....they groomed across the lake to the west side of Wirth Lake to add a K or so of trail....I assume this means that the entire Loppet trail is groomed now or will be groomed soon...some sheer ice on the lake you have to double pole....looking good for a ski to Uptown for me to celebrate old man status on January 5th....

skated loops from Wirth Lake parking lot to the front nine and back...one hard loop in 13:58 at close to race pace to push it a bit....wow, the snow was faster today and they had shoveled a bit (likely for the race last sat) I have to admit I enjoy twisting courses with moderate hills for skating as opposed to very hilly courses that challenge my HR and balance no matter what speed I am going......
