TPain in the front as a last minute sub for the injured Waima...and the boy catches on fast....despite only an hour of instruction the night before he gets the "hit and switch" and knows how to draw and cross brace for turns.....
..not sure what happen at the start but I did not handle the start with all the waves real well but once we get it righted I could tell that we were going to do pretty well...the waves on Calhoun gave us a couple of scary moments so I soft paddled a bit as we played a bit of bumper boats to the channel to LOI but I am guessing we werent alone....
we went through the channel 4 MINN II abreast when a kayak turned sideways in front of us...somehow we made it through and I figured we could now get down to business....
with the "TPain Train" up front we moved up nicely and executed turns well and we paddled our way to my best paddle split of 4 Triloppets....about 4 minutes faster than last year...
averaged 152 HR...yes, paddling can be aerobic...

I figured it was humid and that would hurt times so I focused on giving it a red line effort and let the time be what it would be.....I was focusing on matching last years performance (overall split place in the field), figuring average times would be slower....the hills were as tough as always but I ran every step..it felt like running through the jungle with the humidity and vegetation....averaged 167 HR on the run so I know I gave what I had to give...last year my split was 53.34% of total double men...this year 53.3% of total doubles men...so that is right where I expected to be...JJ and pete came by and said hi as we worked it hard....

This one hurt....and my HR average shows why...169 average for the bike....no wonder I felt puky on the hill behind the chalet where I hit 180 HR...those hills had me hanging on....again I was trying to match last years performance figuring our paddle split would give me a better overall result...had to get off the bike to push on one single track section and then got pushed over by the "helpful" volunteer but managed to bring it home with a good effort...last year my bike split was 55/131 men doubles (45.0%) and this year 70/165 (42.42%)...nice....
final time was 1:58:24 and 41st of 165 finishing doubles men (24.8%)...50/245 total doubles (20.4%)...averaged 167 HR for the entire event....about 4 minutes faster than last year but on a altered course....
on the strength of our paddle split my best triloppet finish ever....
comments ALL paddle splits and finishing times are off by 1 minute...they must have started the race clock 1 minute before the actual start....so everyones paddle split listed in the final results are 1 minute long....
also, no big to me BUT the guy that won doubles might not have run the right run course...Kari said a couple of the top runners came to her at her intersection came from the wrong direction...I showed her pix and she it was a guy with short hair and a blue tri suit...but I doubt they confronted the situation at the awards....probably just let it ride....no way to prove he did not run the right course...?
