Run 15:01 [3]
ahr:112

The weather outside is more than frightful...but inside the Snap is delightful..

looks like XC skiing will be off the table for a bit...maybe longer but I got in a good recovery workout when its miserable outside...thought about some intervals but I have done more than enough in that arena this week so opted for a run test and some recovery

15:00 at 12:00/mile 112 HRA...either this was not accurate or I am progressing on the run fitness front....likely a bit of both.

Hyland!

they managed to turn what would be icy conditions into some great fast skiing. Family ski for 2 hours but I only counted the loops I broke off and skied on my own....

Sydney skied good on her new skis....she loves the downhills

did 2 loops of 18:30 or so at 15K race pace.....appx 150 HRA....solid speed work.

xc classic skiing 1:39:49 [3]

We got lucky and hit it just right.....right after an extended drizzle, Kari and I decided to go to Hyland and ski anyway, wonderinng if it would be worth it

...the rain turned to snow as we left the house and by the time we got to Hyland the snow on the track helped to mitigate the slightly icy track and provide a bit of kick.....

Kari's first time out and she did well and she should be fine for our first event at the 15K Sisu ski fest.....

alot of tempo paced effort at 30K race pace

Note

unfortunately I am not Roy Carlstad who was out skiing at 93 years old....and its not because of my willingness or desire. Its because I dont physically have the right stuff....heredity has never been my friend in the endurance sports I have choosen.

I can feel how I have slowed in skiing. I cant do the distance or the speed I use to....you gotta figure that when your max 5K run times go from about 21 flat to 28:20 that your skiing is going to slow also.......I hate to say it but I can tell..... Skating hilly terrain is not a real good thing when your V02 max is 33 (16 years ago it was tested at 51) I figure I have only a few more years to skate and be able to keep moving without maxing my HR. Classic skiing allows you to back off more when needed. Skating doesn't. There is a reason that old guys classic ski that has nothing to do with a traditional view of XC skiing...

I have one more likely event goal for my skating XC life. I want to skate the 35K at the Vasaloppet one more time. Its flat enough course to give it a go. It wont happen this year but I better get to it by next year if I want to be able to finish it with a respectable result.....I wish this was happening later in life but its not for me.....like a guy told me one time "dont wait"

Run 1:20:48 [3]

long recovery run with Kari.......3 min run/ 2 min walk.....

xc skate skiing 10:14 [3]

had the day so I decided to ski something new since we have snow....saw a great pix for Browns Creek trail. Headed over and it was false advertising, no tracks set, to bumpy, and not much fun....a waste of time. Off to where I know its good....3 Rivers, Hyland

xc classic skiing 2:17:17 [3]
ahr:143

objective: Ski long, build endurance, and insert some tempo 20K race pace work....good execution.

Hyland,That's more like it...no one grooms like they do...race like grooming on all trails...so I skied primarily the natural snow trials....

did 50:47 on my race skins with a 151 HRA...at the end of my workout whe I was tired.....perfect tempo work. Good race simulation.

the rest done at 139 HRA....

decided not to work, waited for good temps, and was rewarded today.....this should be some good race prep
