Note

My emphasis on training specifically to compete likely is fading away due to my knee issues and a resultant lost of ability in the endurance sports I do.....

but no matter, my plan is to move from specific training with speed, long and tempo work to achieve specific results goals in events I do is likely over.....I will enjoy my role as a "participant" as oppsed to a person who competes....maintaining good health through participation in the endurance sports...a shift in emphasis but significant for me.....

I have had a good run, achieved results I thought I would never be able to achieve in my 34 years of specific training...especially with my inherited abilities being so paltry....I am not designed for endurance sports. The only sport I can think of that I had some natural ability was swimming....and I have always been blown away my real swimmers...all others I started low in the food chain and manage to improve significantly only through hard work and effort.

I am used to being beaten by people who I out trained....and looked as competitors primarily as others helping me bring out my best and maximize my own limited potential.....that was always more than enough for me....

And just as I see the hand writing on the wall concerning myself I see my daughter start to surge in her abilities....I must confess that I am thrilled to watch her compete and give it a go.....she seems to really enjoy all sports and I enjoy watching her and doing it with her....so now the focus shifts off of me and towards Sydney my child.....one thing I know: she is a gamer....loves adventure and looks as sports as a fun challenge....

Kari and I have discussed this and we have decided to expose her to many many sports and let her decide what she loves.

Some recent studies have shown the best way to produce great and happy youth athletes is to avoid specializing in sports early on

so far she has done:
mt biking
trail running
triathlon
soccer
fencing
xc skiing
climbing
hiking

this year we plan to expose her to:

fencing...tournaments and club fencing
mt biking
trail running
track events
running races
soccer league team
basket ball league team
triathlon timed and untimed
hiking
climbing
Swim team

and no more than 3 times a week....usually 2....

we are avoiding club- travel or year round sports.....

it thrill me to watch her....I cant even describe the joy I get at watching her fence....what impresses me most is her willing to work and learn and give it her best....she is a tough competitor and she is a Hustler in all sports....

I am, and plan to be, her biggest fan....and let her coach to their job and stay out of it....I will also be her driver to get her places : )

She is a great kid with a good attitude and I cant wait to see her develop her own relationship with the sport she does!....

Note

knees feel better today after a rough post and day after training session moment...so, my next desperate attempt (that seems to always be adapting) is to run twice a week for 2K or 2.5K....so I can run my target 2 to 2.5 miles at the end of a few triathlons.....
