Running race 3:43:03  23.5 mi (9:29 / mi)
Three peaks race , aim was to enjoy this and for almost all of it I did . Set off really steady up
Pen y Ghent Achilles a bit sore , but knee fine . Worked my way steadily up hil , descended gently I think lost 10 places off the top . Ran steady up all the way to top Whernside and enjoyed ascent up there . Took a few people going up and only got passed by 3 or 4 on way down so was feeling pretty happy . Just had some water at drink stations and one gel up Wearnside .
Legs started to hurt a bit up Inglenorough but still catching people . Set off down to the finish tired , but moving ok . I even went past one person on descent , Martin Gostling , we chatted a bit about fell running and how we weren't very good . I got about 2 mile from the finish and then suddenly felt quite odd . Could still talk fine to spectators but could not go in a straight line . Slowed to a walk and almost stopped ,until a kind chap gave me some flap jack . Literally the best food I've ever had .
Eventually got moving in a fashion . About 20 people passed me , but was glad to finish . I guess this is what bonking or hitting the wall feels like . In hindsight should have taken on more sugar during the race . I never do during the marathon so I thought water would be fine . Clearly I was wrong , probably not helped by lack of preparation . Still was glad to have taken part , fantastic runs by rob and John .
