Quads absolutely battered, knee and achilles not too bad. Never wished for a bungalow before. Clearly legs were not quite ready for that. Happily niggles no worse. Went swimming with the boys and kicked a few lengths.

Running race 3:43:03 [5] 23.5 mi (9:29 / mi)

Three peaks race , aim was to enjoy this and for almost all of it I did . Set off really steady up
Pen y Ghent Achilles a bit sore , but knee fine . Worked my way steadily up hil , descended gently I think lost 10 places off the top . Ran steady up all the way to top Whernside and enjoyed ascent up there . Took a few people going up and only got passed by 3 or 4 on way down so was feeling pretty happy . Just had some water at drink stations and one gel up Wearnside .
Legs started to hurt a bit up Inglenorough but still catching people . Set off down to the finish tired , but moving ok . I even went past one person on descent , Martin Gostling , we chatted a bit about fell running and how we weren't very good . I got about 2 mile from the finish and then suddenly felt quite odd . Could still talk fine to spectators but could not go in a straight line . Slowed to a walk and almost stopped ,until a kind chap gave me some flap jack . Literally the best food I've ever had .
Eventually got moving in a fashion . About 20 people passed me , but was glad to finish . I guess this is what bonking or hitting the wall feels like . In hindsight should have taken on more sugar during the race . I never do during the marathon so I thought water would be fine . Clearly I was wrong , probably not helped by lack of preparation . Still was glad to have taken part , fantastic runs by rob and John .

Was going to go for a swim this morning , but arrived to find is ladies only on a Friday morning. Harrumph, of note there is no man only session, apparently because we have not been discriminated against (not until now anyway)
Had a very gentle leg strech in the rain instead.

Bought some trail shoes for saturday, some Mizuno things. I thought i best test them first. The nice people at accelerate assured me they were my ideal shoe as i was quietest on the treadmill in them. I thought being quiet was more a property looked for in the ideal shoe to mug people in , rather than run up in hills in , but never mind.
To be fair they were pretty comfy , nice muddy run through eccy woods with a few strides and genlte efforts. Looking forward to some mud on saturday not so sure about slippy rocks .

Knee feeling better so i thought i needed to give the legs a test if i am going to race Saturday. Picked hilliest route home. Out along Rivelin valley then up the patch alonside Lodge Lane, down to Porter Dam and then up to Ringinlow. Down Limb Valley and into eccy woods then back up home. Knee felt ok. Really slippy under foot my trail shoes are crap, asics something but seem basically to be road shoes with slightly different upper. No grip in the mud. I don't think my achilles are up to fell shoes so not sure what to do.
I only want to start if I am confident of getting round ok, i haven't had to drop out a race since I was 13 and isn't the weather for walking around the dales. I will seee how the knee and achilles are tomorrow.
Really muddy out and just got in shower when fish delivery turned up. Muddy footprints all up the stairs did not cheer Jo up when she got home oops. Spent a good hour on my knees scrubbing !!
