| More head lamp stuff:
(1) - get one of these: http://www.led-tech.de/de/High-Power-LEDs-Cree/CRE... 50 eur - attach it somehow to a head band of an old head lamp. - get a new 12V 4000...5000 mah nimh battery + 40eur (or for use two old 6V batteries, no need to buy a new charger +0eur) - some wires and stuff, maybe some lenses ~10 eur ... so one might get 45 W halogen eqvivalent head lamp for 50...100 euros. (2) More waterproof and less do-it-yourself lamp: http://www.nightlightning.co.nz/endurenz%20details... about same amount of light the one above. A bit more expensive, but still a lot cheaper than a Lupine light. I guess yo'll get a nice 45 W halogen eqvivalent night O lamp for ~ 200 eur
| Running 38:00 [2] 8.03 km (4:44 / km) | ||

| (rest day) | ||
| Day 1. of the season 2007-2008. Yesterday's race was the last race of the season. I start this season by having a rest day, I feel like my back needs some rest. But I declare myself recovered from the cold.
| ||
Sunday Oct 21 | ||
| Running warm up/down 25:00 [1] | ||
| Orienteering race 1:07:00 [4] 8.6 km (7:47 / km) | ||
| XXX Rastijahti, H35
http://routegadget.awardspace.com/misc/rastijahti0... This is a classic mass start race with funny forking. Mass start at central conntrol (code 88, the name of the arranging club is Rasti 88). Three 3 control loops + short unforked course to finish. Competitors has rake loops in the order of control description, so competitors has different loop order. But competitors can pick those three controls of on loop in free order. This forking is pretty powerfull, for examaple I ran alone the whole race. There wasnät too many competitors in my class though. I was 2nd 6 minutes behind Marko 'Elvis' Loukkalahti. While waiting for RG you can try to figure out best order to pick controls for each loop. Back wasn't so bad, put I really had to take all downhils very carefylly and slowly. In flat & uphill back was quite ok - but asthma wasn't. Fly is getting better and hamstring is OK. :)

|
today's virtual O training: http://routegadget.awardspace.com/misc/osimu3.jpeg It's was actually pretty easy, it's somehow more easy then you might think to understand tricky contours in this game.

| (rest day) | ||
| The spreading would look something like this on a O map:
http://routegadget.awardspace.com/misc/spreading.j... Too tricky? Too much road running? Will not work? --- Rest day. I'd liketo kill this flu/cold/whatever before sunday's race.
| C • Spreading 2 | ||

| I made a new terrain/map with Suunnistussimulaattori/Osimu's map generator, planned a courseon it and "ran" it:
http://routegadget.awardspace.com/misc/osimu1.jpeg Snapshot from forest: http://routegadget.awardspace.com/misc/osimu2.jpeg (ver 1.1, released couple of days ago) Snapshot with route is viewed at finish. If you look carefully you can see start point on the road behind the map.

| Event: Halikko | ||
| Running warm up/down 35:00 [1] | ||
| Orienteering race 43:30 [4] 6.1 km (7:08 / km) | ||
| (sick) | ||
| Halikko. I had cold symptoms, and so asthma was back. Luckily it didn't strike with full power yet. Denis, last man of our 3 runner group, ran from start to 7, then almost to 8 untill he noticed it was the wrong loop and ran to #1. 10 min mistake. So we had plenty of time with Jalle. It happens. | ||
Friday Oct 12 | ||
| Note | ||
| I think I am getting sick, some sort of flu. a bit sore throat etc. | ||
Thursday Oct 11 | ||
| Note | ||
| I got 5th leg in Halikko. Exiting - let's see how many minutes I'll be faster than the guys who try chase me... I guess I'll be 2 mins faster than Jalle or D jr ;)
| ||
| C • Easy job 2 | ||
Wednesday Oct 10 | ||
| Note | ||
| I noticed now my time is better than OK Linné team 2 runner's time. Yahoo!!! Last year I lost miserably.
Have I improved a bit? Or is it just that this time OK Linné didn't put any mighty national team runners to their second team to run the same leg against me?

| Running warm up/down 50:00 [1] | ||
| Running race 10:33 [5] 3 km (3:31 / km) vdot: 55.4 | ||
| 3000m on track. +4C, a bit holotna.
Bad tine and last week I ran 5 sec better :(
Tuesday Oct 9 | ||
| Note | ||
| Added RG for manna. | ||
| Running 25:00 [2] | ||
Monday Oct 8 | ||
| Note | ||
| I have been trying to see split times (WinSplits Online) and other stuff from 25manna, but nothing seems to work. Is the problem here or there? WinSplits may go down if there is too much traffic. RunOway doesn't work either. Just great. It would not be bad idea to put good old plain split time files to a web server in addition to the quite heavy WinSplits system. | ||

Sunday Oct 7 | ||
| Note | ||
| Back from 25-manna. Lots of people here are pretty dissappointed and frustrated. Yet an other epunching disaster. People claim they got signal but no punch found. Most cases were from sperctator or last control and they were seen punching there. Nothing new.
The other hot issue here is Emma Engstrand(?if I got the name right - didn't see it myself) at last control. Such behaviour shouldn't be accepted, I hope she will get a ban for some time or something. But I guess nothing will happen, of course. I think some youtube stuff will follow, some guys shoot it all with video camera.

Saturday Oct 6 | ||
| Event: 25-manna | ||
| Running warm up/down 40:00 [1] | ||
| Orienteering race 51:40 [4] 8.3 km (6:13 / km) | ||
| 25-manna, 24:th leg.
http://www.routegadget.net/gpsoblog/cgi-bin/reitti...= Nothing special. I was slow and could see controls and didn't navigate ao well in places. A bit boring route, same legs with previous legs so there was huge elephant trails fron control to control. But it was fun anway.
Friday Oct 5 | ||
| Note | ||
| Take a look at last photo:
http://www.25manna.nu/general/standard/publisher/a... I hope they don't make any human errors. If they program one unit wrong, with our luck most of our team will be punching with the very same unit. I can only imagine how much unnecessary work they have to do there. It's kind of sad.
Thursday Oct 4 | ||
| Running 36:00 [1] | ||
| Rain. | ||
Wednesday Oct 3 | ||
| Running race 10:28 [5] 3 km (3:29 / km) vdot: 55.9 | ||
| 3000m track. Lot worse than I hoped, it wasn't as good asthma day as most days lately. | ||
| C • Kisa? 2 | ||
| Running warm up/down 40:00 [2] | ||
Tuesday Oct 2 | ||
| Note | ||
| A discussion reminded me of the epunch issues. 2007 has been just an other bad year. Big surprise. Here is some example cases with Emit. Cristina and some other World Cup runners struggled to get result in Lapua World Cup, just because a punch unit didn't work as it should. In World Cup Hovden Norway Thierry won and Novikov was second, but Novikov's punch from last control was never found, so he was disqualified. As fas as I have heard he just punched too fast just like Cristina.
There was butterfly loops in Finnish Ultra long champs. Some runners didn't get electric punch from one of the visits at central control. They were disqualified - pin mark was useless because they may have got it at other visits at the same control. I guess batteries may have got exhausted for extensive use during some shout periods. Who can say something like case Cristina did not happen?
| Running 1:07:30 | ||
| 10k 4:45 pace + 20 min warmup/down. Easy. | ||
Monday Oct 1 | ||
| Strength 4:00 [3] | ||
| Car didn't start this morning. Display told me brakes were malfunctioning and some liquid leves were down, electric gas pedal was malfunctioning. Steering was malfunctioning too. When I tried to start the engine I got funny stripes and cryptic marks on car's lcd screen. Saturday car was ok and now everything possible was broken. After accusing Spanish car intrusty for a while I noticed indoor light was on. I did't put it on this morning.
The stupidness of an average Finn against smartness of Spanish engineers: 6-0 Strength training: I carried battery inside to be recharged.
