| Orienteering 1:35:00 [3] | ||
| With Tomi and Minna, near by terrain (15-20 min drive from home). Course was planned in a way all started with different part of the course, put first 7 contols, passed next 7 and picked up last 7. Plus I had some extra contols (blue circles). Legs we were supposed to put or pick were connected with purple color, the rest with blue. Each 7 control section had diffrent streamer colors, I put orangeones, passed blue ones and picked red one.
Quite a change. As you might have already guessed I didn't plan this training. My lazy planning method has been lately grab-a-random-map-with-old-course-on-it-and-just-run-it. All these nice color codes were too much for poor Tomi who started picking red ones instead of orange until he realized it and left all red streamers at a control. I was supposed to pick red one, and I was a bit confused why I can't find any. But it was fun. RG

| A D21 middle distance course Minna ran last summer. Lost 4 min to Minna and 11 min to winner, Vroni. Yes, it was terrible weather (rain - something between sonw and water), very dark, snow halfway to knee in some or most places, no flags or reflectors, but it doesn't change the fact Minna was one min/km faster than me. Damn!
RG with Minna vs. Jagge dot animation is here. You can find the original event RG here

| Orienteering (night) 1:20:00 [3] 8.5 km (9:25 / km) | ||
| Night o training in a near by terrain RG . GE. Dark, icy, slippery, snowy, with crashing trought the ice to knee deep cold water, despair ... in other words perfect night O training. I even broke my compass on my way to #4, navigated rest of the course without one. I belived many times beeing lost, but controls keeped popping up (actually there wasn't any controls - I usually practise without flags - so right places kept appearing).
Navigating skills are far too over valued. All you need is pure raw luck! I wonder if this is how Pasi does it? Added also RG for night o I did three days ago.

| Note | ||
| Quite funny - today is the last voting day, and my SI posting seem to have got 60% of votes so far. The prize is 40 ¬ (got that wrong first) and it need to be used at Suunnistajan Kauppa orienteering store. I need a battery carrier for my new HID, maybe I should start checking what are the options there ;) | ||

| At Luukki (north), almost all controls were big stones. It's good to have clear control points if you dont have anys flag of reflectors in forest. 20% was snowless, mostly there was ankle deep snow or more. First time out with my new 950 lumens HID.
Running with it was a lot like running with my old 20W halogen with fresh battery. The light was just a bit, or a lot, brighter. And it really is still night O, brighter light does not turn it to day O. I liked this lamp. And it wasn't too bright, I didn't have trouble with the brightness, but in these snowy conditions I wouldn't like to have any brighter light. Snow was already almost too bright. I guess it wil work even better without all the white snow. But it is the only HID I have run with, I can compare it only with my 20W halogen. It burned a bit over 2 hours with 2700 mAH nimh battery. RG GE EDIT: This was an old course, I ran this 2-3 years ago. I couldn't remember much. I guess there is certain advatages in beeing old and a bit senile: you will soon forget your trainings and you can do same nice and fun courses over and over again. The disadvantage is you will never learn anything. But if it's fun, who cares.
| C • E-punch discussion 2 | ||
Monday Mar 12 | ||
| Note | ||
| About e-punch issue. I am very pleased to see there is people out there who can kind of understand my reasoning and thinks the main parts in the same way I do.
I have got comments fom WOC winners af every dicipline but trail O (foot-O, MTB-O, Ski-O) and people who have been resposible for making results for several Jukola and Fin 5 events. And no-one has yet said I have got it all wrong. You can criticize me for beeing openly aganist SI. And it's true, SI problems were the trigger for me to tohink where we are and where we are going to. But while thinking the reasons behind SI issues I have noticed Emit share same of SI weaknesses, and Emit has it's own ones. SI criticism can not be taken seriously and will lead nowhere, if you don't admit Emit has it's own weaknesses and they share many of them. International O community deservers better systems.
