Leisurely, pleasant run with crew on lovely evening up to redwoods and back. Enjoyed hearing NZ stories.

Note

AP has provided me an alibi! A traffic infringement fine of $464 arrived today for me for a day in holidays where I couldn't remember quite what I'd done. Checked my log and sure enough Callum and I were out running at time of infringement. Turns out J the culprit.

Joined blackwood gym where Tarn a member. Will have 2 personal trainer sessions. Went on rowing and one other machine- burnt 210 calories apparently . Not feeling 100% today so just a short try.

Callum and I were going to do a short loop but part way up QJD we decided we felt good enough to go all the way up to the tap, and back home via redwood where black berries are ripening, so we both enjoyed a few ( as are the emus, evidently ). Legs a bit tired from Saturday but still felt able to push a bit, which I enjoyed.

Very hungry after which I resolved ( with boys) by soup at organic market. Unseasonably good soup weather ! Picked my first lot of this seasons blackberries on way home. Very pleasant .

Didn't feel like running so Callum and I had a late afternoon brisk walk which was really very pleasant., hence logging! Up boundary of park to kaloola track, back down valley to join the boys who were skateboarding and playing tennis in their favorite spot in the Park, 'trampoline alley'. Really enjoying this mild weather.

Coastal trail from Brighton to Hallet cove and return. I'd never done this before and it was lovely and quite interesting. Quite tiring though especially the up steps towards the end. I meant to just plod being a bit tired at the start but running in a big group was very motivating to try a bit harder, to catch up to or hold onto other runners, and I actually felt reasonable. Ran mostly on my own, the runners I knew were all speedy ones, but still was fine. Very enjoyable. Tired now as busy day. Lauren and Simon in great form on the run.

Day working at Marion so rode there.traffic lighter than usual. Nice to be on bike but bike legs lacking. Twice going up shepherds hill I passed same car apparently overheating.

Home, up saddle hill road, doen to railway, along to station rd, upper sturt rd to tennis courts, down to Melville Gully (blackberry stop, yum! yum!), park boundary to Olave Hill, Turners Ave, Rankeys Hill home. Longest Ive done in a while, and legs a bit out of punch from doing faster bits last 2 days so happy just to go steady chat pace. Water stop at Long Gully and Tennis Courts (plus 1/4 powerbar here).

Intervals. Hadn't done this for a while, as was evident in the 2 x 3 minute intervals where I covered less distance than previously, to be expected I guess. ( plus legs tired from o a bit, which was good as meant I tried.)

Very short run in park with Callum up to Nookoo track and return.

Summer series Morialta. Helping so started at 7pm, last start, medium course. Turned out would've had time for long, after all. Courses were measured as actual length so quicker than 'crow flies' length. Pleasant evening , cool breeze delightful after yesterday. Wasted about 1-1 1/2 mins all up going to wrong 'seat' in playground ( oh yes need to check circle location) and not seeing a plate control to side of track junction ( no. 9).

Decided to join Belair run to be sociable and felt quite cool as I had been in and out of pool all afternoon. However heat soon caught up with me ( and Callum) and I had no energy , so happy to do a short run and jump in pool after. Lethargy is so pervasive in the heat! Easy to feel I will never have energy again.

Loop in Belair with Callum in the rain! Steady rain all morning, stopped at about 1 pm now very cool- around 15C- quite unusual but nice. Went up QJD across to national park station back down valley up nookoo back along boundary.

Already 26C at 8 am. Just a short run up Leske Rd and return. Bit stiff in neck probably from fall, and legs a bit stiff probably from more horse riding than usual.

On verandah after run, surrounded by dogs ( who choose not to join in 'up dog' 'downwards dog' despite the inviting name of the postures).

Then went riding Alfie which started well but then I fell off during some unexpected small bucks ( which i really shouldve been able to sit through, was not great riding) and hurt my long suffering wrist, which made me a bit less confident for our subsequent ride/ walk around paddocks which was annoying.

By Saturday afternoon I was looking forward to summit to sea run next day and had myself packed ready. Started to get cold feet during evening knowing I wouldn't know anyone there at start ( I do this, not unlike hesitating to walk into a party/ event alone). Then I slept very badly as there were strong winds all night and doors kept creaking and slamming so I was up and down trying to secure things. Decided during night it was ' too windy' and I was 'too tired.' So when my 6 am alarm went off I turned it off and dozed. Received an unexpected ' good luck for S2S' text from Jenny from NZ at 6.35! Contemplated still going to Mt Lofty then an starting myself late but still very windy and branch-fall-downish so opted to join run at 8 am start at Hawthorndene (start within running distance).
Arrived at start just prior to 8 am to find everyone else had already started. Two runners appeared from mt lofty at that point who said they had started early from summit, as had many others. Not many runners seem to be sleepyheads like me, but most did seem to be with friends.
Anyway off I went and soon was enjoying myself and getting glimpses of runners up ahead. I ended up passing a few groups as many of them were hesitating at the twists and turns through Blackwood hill reserve/ magpie gully/ Bellevue heights. I think I took a lower route around the last spur before flinders uni than previously but it was marked so was correct. Followed single track below ring road at flinders uni as marked ( and from previous years and checking map during week) and then took steep track to riverside drive. Went under south rd but then saw usual footpath access closed due to road works. No sign of markers. In end ran up to seacombe road and over wondering if I dared climb fences and cross expressway. Then saw runners on west side so I figured way around was behind and further north. (And indeed there had been a late re-route on website which I should've checked Saturday , and to confirm run was on- 1C hotter it would've been postponed). So added probably 2 km extra from usual route, but re route would've added a bit extra too. Anyway turned around, went back to below expressway start and rejoined course. At least now had a few other runners around ( including some from full course ). feet sore by 1.20, I noted. Very happy to see George at top of morphett rd and have a cold coke! Then not too far too finish. I tried to push a bit over last couple of km. as usual swim in sea after devine.
Saw Sarah M after - she and O had started from beach 11 pm Saturday night, did course backwards to Summit, turned around and ran all but last few kms back, clocking 70 km. cradle mtn training! O went just to keep S company. What an effort!

I hadn't planned to run but Callum was excited when he saw me in shorts for yoga and convinced me running was a good idea. Went in park along boundary fence track east to Kaloola track then down to long gully and back. Legs felt good and I felt hopeful about planned Summit to Sea run the next day.

Kept jumping back in pool throughout day. Necessary to survival.
