cycle (Commute) 40:00 [3]

Mitcham to town and return for a course.

Thought about running in the evening but decided on a walk instead.

Monday Mar 30, 2015 #

run (Terrain) 1:00:00 [3]

Terrain practice, better late than never. Through echo tunnel, up steep part of gully then cross country south to top of hill. Then south down spur then west, crossing track and on down to Qjd . Then home. Really enjoy, was lovely in bush.

Last 10 mins was from Greenhill rd to joggers world to buy new trail shoes.

orienteering 1:48:00 [3] 5.5 km (19:38 / km) +185m 16:49 / km

Orienteering at Watts Gully diggings. This was thick and my brain and legs were slow, slow, slow. Mucked up 4 ( my worse) it was closer to spur ridge than I expected and I struggled to find a flag in the yakkas. Too far north on 7, spent too long on vague part of hill. All was clearer once further south in that one. Didn't go in soon enough on 9 so wasted more time there. Rest mostly straight to if hesitant. Craig came into 13 just after me and I seemed to perk up having company near for rest of course ( although he was much quicker through thick stuff), which was a relief as I'd gone into that alternative head space of moving slowly round a hard course and feeling like I'd been on course for days, perhaps for ever, which must be an experience fast people never have!
Very low expectations for next weekend. Hoping to hold nav together, if slowly, and maybe people passing on same course will perk me up a bit so I eventally finish! ( need to check start list - update last runner day one, might take a thermos)
I wonder if the other W 45s are starting to need reading glasses too and having trouble reading map like me?

Saturday Mar 28, 2015 #

run 30:00 [3]

Short jog up the valley .

Friday Mar 27, 2015 #

swim 20:50 [3] 1.0 km (20:50 / km)

Compensated myself for attending a meeting at Marion on a non work day by having a short swim before. Was a competition on in main pool today so lap swimmers were designated the diving pool. Nice and deep but I missed the centre line reference point. Legs felt better after this - they finished the day in better shape than they'd started.

Thursday Mar 26, 2015 #

run 1:10:00 [3]

Biddy's choice past playford lake, past nursery, up QJD back down saddle hill rd in the growing darkness. I walk across the golf course, feeling a bit tired. Not quite sure how long this run took but about this long. My quads and glutes were very sore from 'Bear bracing' down hills the last two days.

Wednesday Mar 25, 2015 #

run 55:00 [4] 10.0 km (5:30 / km)

With Lauren and both boys. Up Qjd drive, over to Redwoods then intervals down valley. Intervals with crazy Bear is quite hard so I only joined a couple properly when we were on nice wide road and not twisty tracks. Quads a bit sore from bracing downhill with loopy Bear pulling last night.

Strength and core 18:00 [3]

At gym before coffee and lunch with Tarn and Lauren.

Tuesday Mar 24, 2015 #

run 37:00 [3]

Golf course, Boundary fence, kaloola track ( bracing quads against Bear's enthusiasm), valley in the dusk this evening.

Monday Mar 23, 2015 #

swim 21:00 [3] 1.0 km (21:00 / km)

Treated myself to a lunch time swim after not getting up in time to run ( sooooo sleepy this morning).

Rhythm felt slightly better than my last swim, but couldn't get any speed up. My arms felt like twigs! As always very refreshing to swim.

Saturday Mar 21, 2015 #

run (Intervals) 55:00 [4]

Morning run with Lauren, up QJD to top, then to Redwoods, then 1 minute on, 1 off, down valley in Lauren's wake, keeping this up all the way down valley, across golf course to upper Sturt rd. Intervals were fun, although I started to slow after only about 4.
Lovely morning for running in the bush.

rogaine 3:51:00 [3] 32.0 km (7:13 / km)

4 hour Goolwa rogaine with Fern. Very pleasant if warm to start. Pretty happy with our route of Island, N then NW Goolwa, back to HH. Out of time to do the possibly more scenic beach controls, but something had to go. And we weren't really expecting any of those except perhaps 1 or 2. I was surprised (and pleased) by how long Fern kept running, which was most of the event - we ended up covering more than I had anticipated.

Really fun event, and the various volunteers did a good job with the large numbers.

Also enjoyed catching up and staying with my cousin and her family on Hindmarsh island after. Chatted to 1 am!

A bit hot and tired and, according to Tarn, grumpy the next day. ( she insisted I jump in the pool to cheer up). Didn't make the ohoc training at fox creek unfortunately but brain would've been too fuzzy.

Strength and core 15:00 [3]

Quick trip to the gym before shopping.

Can't believe how much time I've spent organising the ' simple' catering for the 4 hr rogaine. So much tweaking as numbers have grown. (Catering total 450). Feels like it's been harder than for a 24 hour! Perhaps partly because it's been more work than anticipated. The down side of growth!

Thursday Mar 19, 2015 #

run 1:35:00 [3]

30 min loop in morning to forest. Ran out of time for a longer run, and so went out again to usual Belair run.

Valley, redwoods, single track and saddle hill. Light running out at the end.

Wednesday Mar 18, 2015 #

run 50:00 [3]

Run up the valley to redwoods and back with Lauren and Anton. Ground a little damp and sky overcast.

Tuesday Mar 17, 2015 #

Note

Slept through alarm after full on day at work yesterday so no time for run this morning. Then another busy day at 3 sites and didn't leave work until 630 pm then school AGM so no time for evening run. = 'rest ' day!

Meanwhile now am organising catering for twilight Rogaine for total of 440 people!!

Monday Mar 16, 2015 #

run 30:00 [3]

Short run in Belair with the boys prior to a job interview theoretically to clear my thoughts but didn't really happen as frankly nerves kicked in by then!

Cool on valley otherwise pretty warm.

swim 21:30 [3] 1.0 km (21:30 / km)

Swim after a big day at work. Just can't seem to get any faster at the moment.

Sunday Mar 15, 2015 #

orienteering 1:03:00 [3] 6.6 km (9:33 / km)

Long course based from St Peter river park. I had fun but was a bit befuddled by trying to work out the most efficient ways to cross the river and o Baum, particularly as without my reading glasses I had great trouble reading detail and uncrossable spots etc. Therefore tended to take the simpler longer routes around. Still once I had a plan I tended to run faster than I would on an ordinary run without controls to find. Feeling pretty good running lately.

Saturday Mar 14, 2015 #

run 55:00 [3]

Ran with Lauren up valley to redwoods, walked Bessa blocks back along QJD.
Very pleasant.

Strength and core 10:00 [3]

Lauren's strength and core exercises, me doing modified forms of many. Enjoyed having my own personalized physio at home sessio!

Friday Mar 13, 2015 #

run 22:00 [3]

Short run with Bear (who missed out yesterday) after walking to school with L. Ran up Suffolk track along Upper sturt rd to next gate then back down boundary track.

Noticed my feet were sore after last nights run, might be time for a new pair of shoes.

yoga 30:00 [3]

Did some of this near mirror to check posture. Always interesting how asymmetrical I can be without realising!

orienteering 25:00 [3]

Bridget's junior training at Shepherds hill. Enjoyed watching the star relay then joined vampire o. This was fun! Being chased by vampires is very distracting to map reading though. My strategy was to run uphill, my only hope of getting away from these speedy kids. Was finally tagged at end near finish, partly sacrificial to help L get back to finish, not really necessary as he ran faster and dodges better and got back safely.

Thursday Mar 12, 2015 #

run 1:10:00 [3]

Belair run. Lovely evening although dry dry dry still. Callum choose up valley, then group decision up Saddle hill track, over past dam to QJD, back down this.

Wednesday Mar 11, 2015 #

run 1:10:00 [3]

Jog rather than run with the pointy eared boys. From school, Olave Hill, right at upper Sturt rd left down valley road to home. Met with some friends in park so walked with them for a bit on route. Bumped into F/A/P when nearly home.

Tuesday Mar 10, 2015 #

run 50:00 [3]

Woke up so tired and slow after being awake in the wee small hours that I only managed 15 minutes before work in mini park loop with the ever eager dogs. Then did another loop in the evening while dinner cooking down to main entrance, past lake , up moorowie track, across to echo track then home across adventure playground and the golf course. Felt pretty good this evening. Lovely evening, love this weather although more rain would be good.

Monday Mar 9, 2015 #

run 35:00 [3]

Pottering Sunday afternoon run to visit a friend on Keith rd then ran to bank then home. Not enough sleep last night so feeling foggy.

Sunday Mar 8, 2015 #

run 1:20:00 [3]

Belair and upper Sturt loop with both dogs. Bear is not fun to take down the steep Bessa blocks - pulls too hard! He has been very tired all afternoon after his over exertions.

Saturday Mar 7, 2015 #

run 35:00 [3]

Up valley to volunteer centre, back down road then up Nookoo track. Felt tired.

Kayak 50:00 [3]

Borrowed my friends kayak and paddled from north Seacliff to just past boat ramp at Marino where the cafe is and return. Water a bit choppy and it took me longer than I expected. Very pleasant.

swim 10:00 [3]

At Seacliff - seemed like a lot of effort for not going very far. Bit of current about and Im a bit rusty.

Note

Total entrants for rogaine now up to 273, and still 9 days before entries close! I am going to have to ph more pizza places to supply pizza.

Friday Mar 6, 2015 #

run 46:00 [3]

Upper Sturt rd down to main entrance ( via letterbox). Belair station, track next railway all the way to tunnel, then rejoined QJD, playground, golf course home.
Then spent rest of day on a job application- was complicated and pretty sure I didn't do it correctly!

Thursday Mar 5, 2015 #

run 1:05:00 [3]

Ran to meeting spot then waited for J ( usually other way round!) short run together up creek and back, then after a stretch and chat Callum and I headed up past lake, next to railway all the way to the tunnel, then west straight across the hill, back home via golf course in the gathering darkness.

Wednesday Mar 4, 2015 #

swim 34:00 [3] 1.5 km (22:40 / km)

Swim at lunch. It's been a while and I really noticed that. I was very slow to start with no rhythm. Didn't seem to get going until the last 500 m when I was finally close to 1 min per lap and actually got my hear rate up. Like cycling I find in swimming my muscles tire before I get up much puff. Still I felt great by the end and it perked up my mood.

Tuesday Mar 3, 2015 #

run 23:00 [3]

Small loop through golf course car park with both dogs.

cycle (Commute) 1:40:00 [3]

To and from Marion. Usual sore butt.

Monday Mar 2, 2015 #

run 20:00 [3]

The tiny Nookoo loop as slow to get moving to go running - so tired this morning heading into the work week.

So dry in the Park.
I can hear it trying to rain outside as I type, a welcome sound.

yoga 15:00 [3]

After work.

Sunday Mar 1, 2015 #

orienteering (Sprint champs) 32:57 [3] 2.7 km (12:12 / km) +64m 10:55 / km

SA sprint champs at the convenient location of woodhouse on a cool and breezy morning. This was fun. I started the last of my group and caught Erica by 6. I took the low route to 7 on challenge hill which should've worked. However I hesitated but then disregarded a very small ( correct) track early on, which meant i overshot the control. When I arrived at where I thought it would be I found 3 others from my group all wandering about looking for the control. After seeing the control wasn't there I relocated by going back down the hill. Scale, I need to remember the scale!

Then fairly smooth for the next part, enjoying some leap frogging with Susan which kept me on my toes and moving. Then I messed up 17 by not realising I was supposed to be looking for a vegetation boundary ( a somewhat subtle one) not a ditch with a bend! Helped out by seeing Susan going into it, hidden behind a tree quite nearby. Tried to chase S down through the last control and to the finish but she was too fast for me. The chase kept me moving at least . So probably 6 -7 mins of blundering, a lot on a short course, but others in my group had done same so apparently I won my class. I chatted to the other W 45s after but didn't stay too long as needed to get home to go down with the boys to watch Ls first game of the season.
Fun event and a reminder heading into Easter o always to be cautious!

cycle 1:46:00 [3]

Rode John's 29 er up to the rogaine meeting at Picadilly and return.
Enjoyable although obviously steep in part.
