orienteering (6.75) 1:10:00 [3] 6.75 km (10:22 / km)

Day 1 Easter w 50. Lovelybanks east.

Friday Mar 30, 2018 #

orienteering 28:56 [3] 3.4 km (8:31 / km)

Course 1 Easter prologue, University of Tasmania.
Took too long to work out where I was in relation to the start triangle then settled in. Steve passed me on way to 4 (1 min) then lost sight of him after 7 as I was Slow up the hills . Took direct through green not see a small flight of stairs - a silly route to 10, probably lost over a minute. Pretty congested in many spots. Fun to see a new area. Big group from SA over here which is nice.

run 20:00 [3]

Warm up and cool down.

Thursday Mar 29, 2018 #

run 36:00 [3] 6.13 km (5:52 / km)

After work run with Callum who seemed very excited- perhaps it's the autumn weather?

Sunday Mar 25, 2018 #

orienteering 1:04:00 [3] 6.0 km (10:40 / km)

Mack creek OY course 4 (4.7 km straight line).

I enjoyed this. Started off tentatively as is my habit, probably too tentative as I found myself thinking I knew where I was and I didn't need to be quite so cautious. Lewis caught me on the way to 3 , which was good as it made me hustle along a bit, and I kept seeing him on and off for the rest of the course. Hesitated on way to 8 near the circle when I was trying to keep speedy Bridget in site for a short while, but worked myself out ok, and I went too far left on my bearing on the way to 9 but saw the control to the right so not a major drama. Quite thick in parts. I felt like the hard Canberra training last December made this seem not so hard! Afterwards wished I done course 3 to compare with Leith (although it was good to have energy left for an afternoon of gardening) - he is having to get used to longer courses in M 16. He did pretty well having played a hard 90 minute club soccer game prior to his course.

Saturday Mar 24, 2018 #

run 33:30 [3] 5.07 km (6:36 / km)

Slow jog on a warm morning up the valley - was on the phone chatting so walked all the way to near Karka. Jogged up to Redwoods up and over back down Melville house track. V tired today, don't know why. Saw a big brown snake near the Redwoods, made me gasp.

rogaine 3:59:59 [3] 34.5 km (6:57 / km)

Friday Mar 16, 2018 #

run 39:31 [3] 6.25 km (6:19 / km)

Jog with a few walks with both dogs. Up valley, Melville house track headed north to rejoin bitumen and back down.

cycle 25:00 [3]

VO 2 max test on a stationary bike as part of asthma investigations. Fun and no problem until probably last minute. ( exercise physiologist said it shouldn't be fun and perhaps something went wrong if I felt like that!) Breathing ok but legs burnt a bit. Probably not unexpectedly a much lower result than the only other time I've done this 26 years ago! Some decline with age to be expected. No asthma symptoms. Felt like I could've kept going a little longer but exercise physiologist said vo2 had started to drop off so no point and stopped test. Quite interesting.

Thursday Mar 15, 2018 #

run 37:48 [3] 6.49 km (5:49 / km)

Short loop with Jenny and Callum.

Wednesday Mar 14, 2018 #

orienteering 28:54 [3] 4.11 km (7:02 / km)

Night orienteering at Belair- on the golf course. Lots of fun, I loved this. Felt quite flowy for me. Tried to keep up with B for a couple of legs, she is so smooth! Then I couldn't find where number 14 was on the map and she sped off , never to be seen again.

run 10:00 [3] 1.6 km (6:15 / km)

Running to and from night o.

Tuesday Mar 13, 2018 #

orienteering 19:46 [3] 3.3 km (5:59 / km)

Melbourne sprint weekend race 5. Pairs race . I was paired with Thor, which was daunting , but turned out she was smashed due to a 22 km trail run with 1000 m plus assent the day before. I seemed on a par with a smashed Thor! We were first starters. It was going well fairly neck and neck at the common controls and was great fun until I came to the control with the wrong number on it! I didn't dare punch it despite being confident it was in the correct position. I didn't want another mp. Turns out this would've been the best option as those who did this weren't mp'd. Instead I spent over 4 minutes scratching my head and checking out every tree nearby with a control ( feature was a tree.) finally I check a nearby control on a seat - correct number. Frustrating! By now others were also looking and confused and then on discovering the error letting the new comers know. (Eventually the controls were corrected before the elite classes.) I saw Thor on the way to the finish so she also must've had trouble. I was a few seconds ahead in the end but we were both well down the field. Shame as it had been a good run before and I was keen to improve after mp-ing in the last race . Affected senior boys were compensated time wise but no such luck for middle aged women. I did point out the problem at the finish but was waved on as my numbers were correct. In this case apparently the onus was on us to show we knew we were in the right place by punching the wrong number then letting the finishers staff know. I would've been too nervous of a mispunch. Luckily this doesn't happen often. Never found Thor after to debrief.
Felt like Manu's training was good prep for this. Lots of the juniors did well.

orienteering 15:16 [3] 2.43 km (6:17 / km)

Melbourne sprint weekend race 6. Keillor downs college . Happy with this. More space to run faster. Made 2 errors but corrected them quickly without panicking. This felt like an improvement, small but psychologically significant. Best result for me coming 5th.

Leith had a very consistent weekend mostly coming 4th. Complaining of ankle and coccyx pain - I will get him to do some core work.

run 40:00 [3]

Warm ups and cool downs.

Sunday Mar 11, 2018 #

orienteering 21:30 [3] 3.43 km (6:16 / km)

Melbourne sprint weekend race 3, Yarra valley grammar. Relay team with Jenny, Ruhi and David ( replacing Ben who unluckily rolled his ankle.) In the elites (!!!!). I was leg 1 mass start. Quite fun although I soon dribbled off the pack. Had a couple of people around me for a lot of it. Probably did about the best I could, no errors just off the pace unsurprisingly. Others had lonely rounds unfortunately! SA did well with 2 second places 1 in Senior 1 junior for the dream teams. Very nice lunch out after. Second lunch out for weekend.

orienteering 15:50 [3] 2.3 km (6:53 / km)

Melbourne sprint weekend race 4, Siberia. ( a long long way from race 3).
I didn't make any errors but didn't get moving well - tight course and lots of people about. Had another w 50 around me which helped keep me moving a bit.

run 40:00 [3]

Warm ups and cool downs for the day.

Saturday Mar 10, 2018 #

orienteering 16:59 [3] 2.7 km (6:17 / km)

Melbourne sprint weekend race 1, Monash Uni. Fairly happy. 3 wobbles/ errors. Worse one prob a minute when I overshot.

orienteering 19:30 [3] 2.52 km (7:44 / km)

Melbourne sprint weekend race 2. Complex. Felt like I was slow but smooth-ish. Concentrating really hard up to second to last where I mp 'd! Very rare for me, must've dropped concentration in anticipation of the east run to finish. Annoyed at myself as this was one of my better runs comparatively up to that point. At least I had some high quality company in mp-ers. Many from SA mp 'd.

run 35:00 [3]

Warm ups and cool downs, trying to be very careful not to stiffen up.

Thursday Mar 8, 2018 #

run 39:40 [3] 6.54 km (6:04 / km)

Jog with Callum and Jenny western end of Belair on a warm night.

Wednesday Mar 7, 2018 #

run 46:13 [3] 7.28 km (6:21 / km)

Hot jog up boundary track again and back via valley again. We were both slower in the hot sun and had some stops.

orienteering (Training) 16:25 [3] 2.79 km (5:53 / km)

Manu's first course, SE parklands. Felt pretty smooth and for once spotted the little controls ok.

orienteering (Sprint training ) 32:00 [3] 5.19 km (6:10 / km)

Manu's second course. Managed to mess up and over run number 1! Dyslexic moment looking for ribbon on wrong side of track. Rest ok, not good at understanding direction of controls descriptions e.g. Corners on the run.

Poor L was feeling v v tired on this. I caught him up and we had each other in sight for the rest.

Tuesday Mar 6, 2018 #

swim 30:00 [3] 1.5 km (20:00 / km)

After work swim with Anne on a busy night in the pool.

Monday Mar 5, 2018 #

run 45:53 [3] 8.0 km (5:44 / km)

Evening run with Callum - up the boundary track back down the valley. Felt good running for the first time in weeks. Such a relief- perhaps like Callum I am feeling the heat as I get older. Met Tarn and Bear on the dusty golf course at the end so had a nice walk with them.

Sunday Mar 4, 2018 #

orienteering 26:56 [3] 3.3 km (8:10 / km)

SA Sprint champs at Tatachilla. Great area. Quite bewildered by the infamous 122 which was my number 2. Took me too long to think where to find it when it wasn't in the Centre of the control circle. Reading and digesting the clue description would've helped and noticing the great 'building '. I was standing next to was open ended at the north end. Lost 3 minutes here. Rest ok lost some confidence for a while, hesitated a lot and didn't notice one obvious quicker choice for one leg.

run (Warm up and cool down) 12:00 [3]

Saturday Mar 3, 2018 #

cycle 40:00 [3] 12.0 km (3:20 / km)

Cycle from Victor to Port Elliot and return for purpose of having a swim in Horseshoe Bay with friend Carolyn.

Rode another friend's bike a lovely pastel pink with a basket which was surprisingly comfortable.

swim (Open water) 6:00 [3] 0.42 km (14:17 / km)

Mini swim in horseshoe bay out to pontoon and over to Jetty- short on time but enough to wet my appetite for another day. Water was perfect and not scary with company. Time seems fast perhaps gps out a bit?

Friday Mar 2, 2018 #

run (Jog) 50:00 [3] 8.09 km (6:11 / km)

Up the valley up the hill back via Melville house track and Karka with the faithful Callum. A few stops as it was warm.

Thursday Mar 1, 2018 #

run 1:02:00 [3] 9.6 km (6:27 / km)

Steps run with Jenny and Callum.
