To work and back. Very wet ride in but as there has not been heaps of rain this winter I almost enjoyed it.

run 31:00 [3] 5.7 km (5:26 / km)

Late afternoon run with Leith, the '6 km' loop which is a bit less than 6 km I think. Time and distance an estimate. Felt like we were pushing harder than last Friday.

Run with Jenny and Callum in the rain ( yes rain) - western loop around lake then up past Railway dam to volunteer centre and back.

Up ballast pit track, qjd, redwoods, up and over to Melville house track. Neither Callum nor I are used to the sudden warm weather and we both choose to walk a few times. My legs felt sore.
Time a guess, not sure of distance.

Morning run up past Karka doing pyramid intervals with the faithful Callum. Legs still a bit sore from Sunday. I enjoyed this. Not sure about distance as my Garmin has died.

3 weeks since my last Pilates class and my stomach has gone to pudding. I couldn't do some of the exercises tonight and my abs were shaking with fatigue. :(
I have some work to do. I seem to lose muscle strength quickly - I guess there wasn't a lot there to start with.

orienteering (Moon rock relays course 1) 27:48 [3] 3.3 km (8:25 / km)

My first leg of the relay at Moon rocks with superwoman Lanita who flew round in 20 minutes putting us in first place. This was about the best I've done at Moon rocks. Only a few wobbles. Saw Joanna lightly traipsing in front of me up a slope ( without actually seeing her pass) on the way to 8. Finished a couple of minutes behind her.

Again Lanita tore round regaining first place. I tried to run hard but annoyingly made a 2 + minute mistake at 3. I pulled up where I expected to see the control and looked to left but not properly to the right. Stood still wondering what to do then ran towards the fence finally turned around and saw the control close to where I had been standing. Then ok through next few up to 8 where my 'route through the open to avoid the worst of the rocks' was confusing and brought me too low. Found the fence and relocated from that - another 2 minutes or so wasted - the straight route would've been better. Again saw Jo lightly running ahead at this point. Ran last few controls with Ben which kept me moving. Finished less than 2 minutes behind J and A. Was sorry for Lanitas sake to make avoidable mistakes, when she had set up such a lead twice. :(
Jo and Abigail did a good job though for a well deserved win.

Run up valley and Melville house loop in middle of the day.

Bridget's junior boys training loop up past the wAterfalls with Leith and Callum in the glorious late afternoon sunshine. We started with Bridget and Abbie but lost them. After a week not running my legs felt terrible at the start but strangely better at the end.
Time and distance a guess as Garmin is not working.

Run from home to Blackwood and back via Minnow creek. My Garmin has stopped working so I am not sure of the distance. Warm sunny day, Callum was feeling the heat a bit, already.

Run was paused midway for a lovely walk around the pine forest and smithy's.

Note

1 hour sports massage at blackwood sportsmed. Divine!!

Bridget's training at Tangurri. Using same course as Manu's training last spring, with 23 control circles but only 8 actual controls. I navigated better than last time. It was pleasant running through the bush in the late afternoon sun with Callum at foot.

6.4 km straight line. Good- for -me run. Took conservative track/ fence options on 3 occasions.

orienteering (Tundarri night champs) 1:11:00 [3] 3.9 km (18:12 / km)

It was freezing at the start. I started later due to helping on registration. Cautious to one, 2 easy, 3 - arrrgh - thought I was following the correct faint creek but when it branched I stayed on the south branch - finished my pace count but couldn't pick where the ground was going up hill - in fact because I'd gone too far. Stood around wandering what to do until I noticed the Colwell's super torches to the east and then spotted the sudden small open rocky spur. Fine to 5, then had to go up a low hill to find a rock part way up - 250 m on a bearing what could be simpler in the dark with a not very good torch ( Leith had my ay-up and whipped round, not that his 'whipping round ' was necessarily contingent on the ayup.) so I stopped at what I thought was 250 m stood looking around without success and then hoped Ev would soon turn up with her good torch. She did after a while but still no control so I did what I should've done straight up - relocate from 7, which I did and which worked. As I came in I saw someone coming from the opposite direction- Jenny. ( very impressed with all those who nailed this control btw). Had a tow from Jenny for next few controls- funny how terrain all makes sense much more quickly when you have company. Mucked up my 10 ( or 11?) I'd aimed off and I knew I had to run right and did but didn't go far enough so turned back down. I am so slow to regroup when I make mistakes! Eventually found it the. Ok for last few racing against a fading torch. Back to a carload of patiently waiting hungry juniors who needed feeding. Despite my mistakes I enjoyed this.

Belair run in rain, hail and sunshine. Up ballast pit, Redwoods, up and over to Melville house track and back via valley. Legs tired today.

Bridget's Friday afternoon training- Soggy wet junior boys loop with Leith and Callum- we then put on some dry things to wait for the start of Adrian's night o.

Adrian's night o. So different from last time - tonight was very wet, misty, rainy and boggy. I ran the first half in a jumper and coat to warm up. Visibility was poor - especially with wet glasses which added to the challenge- so it was slower and harder. It was still a lot of fun. A new control feature was used tonight- poster of Tuppence the cat with glow in the dark eyes! Callum barked at the first one. Fun Friday night out. Hot shower was welcome afterwards!

Belair run with Jenny and Callum through echo tunnel up past the waterfalls - finally running - back down single track to Redwoods up and over and back down boundary track. Lots of single track. Nice to do a longer run. It was very windy out there and I am tired now.

Kuipto trail run middle distance. I was a bit of a ding bat and didn't allow enough time to park and for toilet stop and missed the start, adding 3 minutes (and 3 places) to my official time. I think I had a little residual tiredness from last weekend too. So I was slower than I'd hoped. There was an amazing turnout to this event 1200 across the 3 distances. It really is fantastic that so many people are discovering off road running, but I think the crowds are a bit much for me. There is always big bottle necks on the single tracks, where I'd like to stride out a bit and I found this made it a bit frustrating today. I don't think I will bother with the next 2 although I may do the Cleland trails in November.

Lauren was first woman in the 24 km. Great effort.

After I finished I walked straight to my car, made a cup of tea and headed off to Marne rocks for o.

orienteering 56:27 [3] 5.59 km (10:06 / km)

Marne rocks course 4. A better run for me by this years standards. I was quite careful with distance and direction, even walked a bit aided by very tired legs. Still some pausing/ under/ overshoots and hunting around rocks but no disasters and a few spikes, and I rarely do that. I think last weekends bearings and pace counting as well as contours helped. It was nice out there. I had a fun day. When I walked in the front door Leith asked how I went and added, and by the way you looked wrecked! ( I felt it too and even had a nanna nap.)
