run 39:31 [3] 6.25 km (6:19 / km)

Jog with a few walks with both dogs. Up valley, Melville house track headed north to rejoin bitumen and back down.

cycle 25:00 [3]

VO 2 max test on a stationary bike as part of asthma investigations. Fun and no problem until probably last minute. ( exercise physiologist said it shouldn't be fun and perhaps something went wrong if I felt like that!) Breathing ok but legs burnt a bit. Probably not unexpectedly a much lower result than the only other time I've done this 26 years ago! Some decline with age to be expected. No asthma symptoms. Felt like I could've kept going a little longer but exercise physiologist said vo2 had started to drop off so no point and stopped test. Quite interesting.

orienteering 28:54 [3] 4.11 km (7:02 / km)

Night orienteering at Belair- on the golf course. Lots of fun, I loved this. Felt quite flowy for me. Tried to keep up with B for a couple of legs, she is so smooth! Then I couldn't find where number 14 was on the map and she sped off , never to be seen again.

run 10:00 [3] 1.6 km (6:15 / km)

Running to and from night o.

orienteering 19:46 [3] 3.3 km (5:59 / km)

Melbourne sprint weekend race 5. Pairs race . I was paired with Thor, which was daunting , but turned out she was smashed due to a 22 km trail run with 1000 m plus assent the day before. I seemed on a par with a smashed Thor! We were first starters. It was going well fairly neck and neck at the common controls and was great fun until I came to the control with the wrong number on it! I didn't dare punch it despite being confident it was in the correct position. I didn't want another mp. Turns out this would've been the best option as those who did this weren't mp'd. Instead I spent over 4 minutes scratching my head and checking out every tree nearby with a control ( feature was a tree.) finally I check a nearby control on a seat - correct number. Frustrating! By now others were also looking and confused and then on discovering the error letting the new comers know. (Eventually the controls were corrected before the elite classes.) I saw Thor on the way to the finish so she also must've had trouble. I was a few seconds ahead in the end but we were both well down the field. Shame as it had been a good run before and I was keen to improve after mp-ing in the last race . Affected senior boys were compensated time wise but no such luck for middle aged women. I did point out the problem at the finish but was waved on as my numbers were correct. In this case apparently the onus was on us to show we knew we were in the right place by punching the wrong number then letting the finishers staff know. I would've been too nervous of a mispunch. Luckily this doesn't happen often. Never found Thor after to debrief.
Felt like Manu's training was good prep for this. Lots of the juniors did well.

orienteering 15:16 [3] 2.43 km (6:17 / km)

Melbourne sprint weekend race 6. Keillor downs college . Happy with this. More space to run faster. Made 2 errors but corrected them quickly without panicking. This felt like an improvement, small but psychologically significant. Best result for me coming 5th.

Leith had a very consistent weekend mostly coming 4th. Complaining of ankle and coccyx pain - I will get him to do some core work.

run 40:00 [3]

Warm ups and cool downs.

orienteering 21:30 [3] 3.43 km (6:16 / km)

Melbourne sprint weekend race 3, Yarra valley grammar. Relay team with Jenny, Ruhi and David ( replacing Ben who unluckily rolled his ankle.) In the elites (!!!!). I was leg 1 mass start. Quite fun although I soon dribbled off the pack. Had a couple of people around me for a lot of it. Probably did about the best I could, no errors just off the pace unsurprisingly. Others had lonely rounds unfortunately! SA did well with 2 second places 1 in Senior 1 junior for the dream teams. Very nice lunch out after. Second lunch out for weekend.

orienteering 15:50 [3] 2.3 km (6:53 / km)

Melbourne sprint weekend race 4, Siberia. ( a long long way from race 3).
I didn't make any errors but didn't get moving well - tight course and lots of people about. Had another w 50 around me which helped keep me moving a bit.

run 40:00 [3]

Warm ups and cool downs for the day.

orienteering 16:59 [3] 2.7 km (6:17 / km)

Melbourne sprint weekend race 1, Monash Uni. Fairly happy. 3 wobbles/ errors. Worse one prob a minute when I overshot.

orienteering 19:30 [3] 2.52 km (7:44 / km)

Melbourne sprint weekend race 2. Complex. Felt like I was slow but smooth-ish. Concentrating really hard up to second to last where I mp 'd! Very rare for me, must've dropped concentration in anticipation of the east run to finish. Annoyed at myself as this was one of my better runs comparatively up to that point. At least I had some high quality company in mp-ers. Many from SA mp 'd.

run 35:00 [3]

Warm ups and cool downs, trying to be very careful not to stiffen up.
