Event Day: Whistler Gran Fondo 2011
Well, the goal was to finish in 5 hours. I think I could have finished in 4. This Kenyan style approach is absolutely fantastic for the ego. I have never experienced a situation where I'm clearly stronger than everyone, EVERYONE, around me for at least 30 miles at the end of the ride. I felt as though I had more to give at the end mostly because I don't recall hurting during the ride. Finished very strong. Most definitely experienced cadiac drift (how do you think of zones during drift?). I had to stop for a "natural break" on a side road. Quite strong head wind from squamish on. Not much cooperative drafting in this ride, and a large number of spooky people on bikes that I stayed away from. Definitely benefited from a few drafts early but did all of the ride from squamish to finish at the front of some line or solo. FELT GREAT. More download is needed - lots of interesting things to talk about. Great experience. Thank you for the help you've provided in preparing!

Route: Mercer Island normal route CCW 1 lap.
Physical: Felt great. Maybe went a little harder than I should have but really did keep it mellow for Z2 time. The Z3 got away from me at a couple of points, so I spent a little time in low Z4. Hope I don't pay for this on saturday. We'll see.
Mental: Excellent. Very motivated to ride right now.
