classic ski (Yellowknife) 2:30:00 [3] 20.0 km (7:30 / km)

We signed up for the Gold Loppet which was self-directed this year due to covid. The rules said you could start anywhere on the "course" and at anytime from midnight Sat. to midnight Sunday. So of course Goose wanted to start at midnight. We went to the Snowking Castle and headed north into Back Bay under an amazingly luminous full moon ringed with a gorgeous white halo under a light veil of overcast. It was so big and beautiful. We skied up the west side of Back Bay and on into Yellowknife Bay and found an extra loop that was groomed impeccably and no one had walked on it, or messed it up with skidoo tracks etc. It was the bomb! Such sweet skiing on perfect snow, first ones to go on it. Felt like we were flying. We stopped for a snack and that's when an amazing chorus of wolf howls started. Gave us goosebumps. Magic.

classic ski (loppet) 4:30:00 [3] 30.0 km (9:00 / km)

A bit of a short sleep but we got up and headed out to do the other loops on the small lakes to the west. Goose had planned a route assuming there would be skidoo tracks between lakes to follow. That worked fairly well but we did have a couple of walking sections. It was a beautiful day., and we stopped several times to take pictures and have snacks. Despite strong winds
the temps were spring-like and the sun was out. We saw a few other loppeters but not many. The tracks were pretty good on most lakes but we did do a fair bit on skidoo tracks too. It was really fun.
