circuit (class) 15:00 [3]

circuit x 1 class

dance (zumba) 2:00:00 [3]

Guest instructor - pretty vigorous Zumba :)
12 PM

skate ski (school field) 40:00 [3] 4.0 km (10:00 / km)

Went out on the field at lunch for a few laps to check out the snow for practice. It's just a thin crust but it's pretty good since it's stayed cold and dry.

circuit (class) 20:00 [3]

circuit x 1 class
1 PM

dance (belly dancing) 1:45:00 [3]

Belly dancing with guest instructor - fun and lots of core work. I'm sore.
3 PM

skate ski (school field) 1:20:00 [3] 7.0 km (11:26 / km)

Finally! A cold crisp winter day, with sunshine, but also brisk wind so minus
10-ish felt even chillier. Harps must be loving it.
Skied around the school fields at lunch to scout the best route for practice after school.
We did a warm up lap
- 10 minutes of double poling (which is killing my wrist and thumbs!)
- legs only tag games
- one-skate work, a couple of laps
- starts
So good to get the kids on actual snow - not much, like 2cm of crust, but it was white and we were gliding :)

skate ski (warm up /cool down) 40:00 [3] 5.0 km (8:00 / km)

Took my novice girl up the escarpment and pre-skied part of the course - she was awesome. Then did a cool down ski with the other old ladies and gents. Great day.
12 PM

skate ski race (Yuletide Blast) 20:00 [4] 5.0 km (4:00 / km)

Nothing like racing - your 3rd time on skis this season. It was full on winter finally at Highlands and they were hosting their re-scheduled Yuletide Blast today. I even had some intrepid skiers from the school team come up (in blizzard conditions) who had never skied on snow until today, and they raced!!
Very brave. I felt pretty good, but not fast. It was softer conditions today than yesterday with fresh fluffy snow, and slower but way nicer.

skate ski (Highlands) 2:00:00 [3] 25.0 km (4:48 / km)

Nice steady skate, 2 full orange loops with a couple of extra add-ons, with the Girl. There wasn't a lot of snow but it was enough to fill in the bumpy spots from last time. They need a big dump. Still, it was so nice to go for a long ski through the woods and come out periodically to look down from the escarpment to the bay and the heavy purple-grey clouds that must have been dropping snow further east.

snowshoeing (Torrance Barrens) 20:00 [3] 0.75 km (26:40 / km)

Woke up to an even prettier, snowier winter wonderland. I was sad to take down our tent and leave such a beautiful site/sight. We loaded it all up in the packs and Goose's toboggan and were able to cut across the previously much slushier wetland - although Bent still went in knee deep for a big soaker. We were only minutes from the car luckily. We left in a very heavy snow squall on unplowed roads , so it was slow for a while - even slower when we ended up behind a plow into Gravenhurst. Then after that there was really no snow to speak of. Glad we went. Thanks for the delicious chili Browner, and the salt, thanks for the great toppings Storm - bring raisins too next time :).
The bread and cheeses were delicious Bash and Bent - even for breakfast!
Oh and in case anyone was wondering, there was a winner of the parlour games. There's always a winner, right Phatty? Guess which team won? Boys or girls?

snowshoeing (Torrance Barrens) 2:20:00 [3] 7.5 km (18:40 / km)

As Hermes would say - magical! Went up to Torrance in Bent's van with Bash, Browner and Storm. As we got near Gravenhurst it was quite snowy. It was certainly winter there. Out at Torrance it was even snowier - sort of wet snow when we started but definitely snowing - winter wonderland snow, frosting all the trees. It was gorgeous and we had a lovely explore on snowshoes around the swamp/pond - where I went round in circles at Logs Rocks and Steel a few years ago. Ironically this time I knew exactly where I was and had no trouble finding the trail around the lake - even though half the white blazes are painted on rocks that were buried under fresh snow.
We met Goose after our explore and took a longer route to skirt the wetland with his heavy toboggan, then went up on the ridge and found a nice spot we scouted earlier nestled down off the ridge out of the wind but high enough to be out of the wet ground.
Once we followed Goose's order to get the big canvas tent up and collected firewood, we had just enough time to go for another snowshoe before dark.
Then it was eat, eat, eat and drink, and parlour games in the cozy woodstove heated tent :) Awesome. With of course celebratory noises, toasts and treats at (Icelandic) midnight. Happy New Year!!
