classic ski (river) 1:10:00 [3] 8.0 km (8:45 / km)

Brilliant, beautiful -18 morning. Snuck in a short ski on the Humber before school. A ski for the soul - it was so rejuvenating. You cannot be in a bad mood if you start your day gliding along on sparkly satiny snow in the sunshine. It was so lovely - I went again at lunch time . It was about -3 by then. Gorgeous :)

skate ski (team practice) 1:00:00 [3] 6.0 km (10:00 / km)

Nice day, really nice snow - even out on our playing field. We had an awesome game of ski-football, then some technique work in the sunshine. I got out for a bit at lunch too.

skate ski (coaching) 1:15:00 [3] 10.0 km (7:30 / km)

Ropssaa championships at Highlands. Not too cold but high humidity - felt chilly if you weren't moving. My skiers did well. Sr. girls first overall and my junior girls 1st in the relay with some individual medals. Several move on to ofsaa. One broken arm but no broken poles today. Fun.

skate ski (Highlands) 12:00 [3] 2.0 km (6:00 / km)

Tried my race skis but it wasn't as warm as it was going to get so they were squeaky slow and not fun so I headed back in to get classic skis.

skate ski (Highlands) 1:45:00 [3] 18.0 km (5:50 / km)

Headed out on m y old skate skis which were marginally better. The glide was not fast - and I was felt so slow and unfit and ready to just go trade with Goose, I got up the escarpment and the skis felt a bot better and then at 10:57 suddenly they started gliding :) It was fun after that. I guess the snow had warmed up from -20 to -10.

classic ski (Highlands) 12:00 [3] 2.0 km (6:00 / km)

Tried my crowns but they weren't nice either so I went back to get skate skis again.

classic ski (river) 2:00:00 [3] 10.0 km (12:00 / km)

Brilliant winter day!! No wind again, just blue sky forever. The sun was actually feeling warm today - especially down on the river - even though it was -16. Glorious.
Skied up river, on the river for the most part, but had to go up on the bank a few times where it was still open or flooded. I was a bit disappointed to discover that for some reason what was frozen and covered with a layer of fresh snow yesterday when Goose and I were out was now flooded ?? Weird.
It was frozen, closed over but water was running over top of the ice. I went up on the bank for a bit to see if it was skiable further up but it seemed flooded for quite a ways. I was able to go downriver to the bottom of Humberlea though. It was so nice :)

snowshoeing (Humber river) 2:00:00 [2]

Perfect winter day! Clear crisp blue sky, gorgeous sunshine, -22, fresh fine snow - just enough to hide that it was just enough, and just enough to be able to pretend we needed snowshoes. SO, Outdoorsmama - I've been on snowshoes. Goose and I headed up the valley on the river, and along it -perfectly warm and very happy. It was lovely :) Wish I could have stayed out longer. Hope it lasts.

skate ski (coaching) 2:00:00 [3] 11.0 km (10:55 / km)

Finally, we got to ski :). There was lots of beautiful fine powdery snow, well groomed, and then it puked snow on and off like summer downpours, then sunshine, then another downpour on and off. When it snowed, it snowed! Whiteouts. Awesome. The skiers raced well but it wasn't easy skiing, not very fast - but soft and smooth like skiing on a pillow :)
