classic ski race (STARS War) 1:34:00 [3]

Awesome day!! Way too warm for Feb. but beautiful blue skies, and no wind, and lots of sunshine and lots of snow - sticky mushy snow as the day progressed but plenty of snow for the STARS War race. Outdoors mama had her skis waxed by Goose last night so she was moving well. She and I steadily made our way around the course and her navigating was pretty much perfect. We found all the controls we thought we could reasonably get - leaving 2, and bobbling a bit on one. We skied for an hour and half getting all the one on/near the ski trails, then donned snowshoes and got more. It was so beautiful and so much fun. Apparently there was much confusion over the "rules" and scoring but I don't know enough to even know it was confusing. Orienteering is always confusing to me. Ignorance can be bliss. Like Hermes I skied and snowshoed with a big smile on my face all day. :)

Very mild and windy day which kills snow. I went for a toodle around the park/soccer fields before things got even mushier at +5, to see how the crowns felt. Think I'll use them tomorrow in the STARS War as it is forecast to be quite mild at Scenic Caves.

Absolutely spectacular nordic day :). Blue, blue, endless blue sky, sparkling snow, great grooming, fast skiers in the sprint relays and spirited spectators lining the course. Fantastic. Snuck out after the heats as my kids did not make finals, and did a quick loop of the warm up areas just to enjoy the perfect conditions. Wish I could have skied longer.

Lots of to-ing and fro-ing on the courses today. It was still bad weather for driving so the races were delayed. There was rather nasty northeast wind that made it very uncomfortable to stand still. Oh too bad, had to keep skiing to stay warm. The snow just kept falling and made for mashed potatoes on the uphills and piles of snow snowplowed into ridges on the downhill turns. There were tumbles but at least it was soft. Some beautiful racing. The good skiers are soooo good - it's a joy to watch them glide by so (seemingly) effortlessly and gracefully, and powerfully - and fast! Not my kids. They were middle of the pack and competent, but the club skiers were obvious and the medal winners were awesome.

Left in time to outrun the snow this morning and get to Highlands before the roads got bad. It snowed to beat the band the rest if the day but it was like ball bearing with butter on top when we went out this morning- fast but silky not icy.Sweet skiing, wish the kids were racing today. Unfortunately many teams weren't allowed to travel today so there will be delays tomorrow and it's causing some stress. Glad we left early and got to pre-ski.

Got out at lunch. Beautiful day - for April - but the Bolton Camp trail was pretty icy in the shaded section and mucky and messy ion the warm spots so I was seven slower than usual. Still, better than sitting inside.
