Note

Managed a wee hike in Bolton camp before work, before the ice hit. Crazy fast freezing rain.

skate ski (school practice) 50:00 [2]

Found a patch of actual snow on top of hard bumpy ice out on the school field. Gotta make do with what we have. It was nice out and the kids did a decent practice on rock skis. Lots of legs only tag, gliding games, starts, sprints, relay exchanges and then a short cool down ski. All flat.

core strength.flexibiity (class) 20:00 [3]

short circuit with jogging, stretching, planks etc.

skate ski warm up/down (masters nordic) 40:00 [2] 8.0 km (5:00 / km)

Pe-ski,/wax test,/warm up and cool down.

skate ski race (Ontario Masters nordic) 38:00 [5] 10.0 km (3:48 / km)

Winter wonderland snow this morning - lots of it. Fine, moist snow, tricky wax choice. I had a HF that seemed to work well. Huey had ski with HF but chose the ones with LF - and that didn't go so well for her today. I worked hard but felt strong. Stayed with Flower girl for a bit longer, passed the young whipper snapper (a 30yr-old master) at about 5km, fought to stay with another woman in my age division but she and her skis were definitely faster, tried to keep her in my sight and then flagged with about 400m to go. I could hear the chit-chit of pole baskets getting nearer and nearer and with about 100m to go the whipper snapper put on a sprint that I could not match and clipped me at the finish. I maxed out today but had a blast. It wasn't fast snow, it was pillowy and beautiful though. Lovely trails, lovely people, and tons of lovely snow.

skate ski warm up/down (masters nordic) 50:00 [2] 10.0 km (5:00 / km)

Warm up/cool down. Such a pretty place to ski, great volunteers and sweet chalet.
11 AM

skate ski race (Ontario Masters nordic) 1:15:00 [5] 20.0 km (3:45 / km)

Went up with the Huets to Parry Sound for the Ontario Masters x-c ski championships. It wasn't a big event, as there were many skiers with their kids at Eastern Canadians but we were a spirited group of very happy skiers. Chris and I did the 20k skate but Mike was quite sick and had such a terrible chest cough he had to drop out. The conditions were a bit odd because there was a 20k classic race before ours. A layer of fresh snow had settled on top of the skate trail but the classic tracks were very glazed and hard so they were much faster. The skate race became a double pole event. Bad for someone with very sore thumbs/wrists/elbows. The Flower girl hammered much of the way round in the tracks, she dropped me in the first 2km, Chris hung onto her for bit and also dropped me, but I kept her in sight. Then I skied by myself. There were only 7 of us in the women's race, in 7 different age categories. And we were pretty much perfectly spaced out. So we each won :)
I worked pretty hard but just wasn't very fast even though I felt great.
The banquet was fun with excellent food and company at the Grand Tappattoo.

skate ski (practice) 1:30:00 [3] 15.0 km (6:00 / km)

The principal told me I could take my team to Mono to practice since there were no classes today - as long as I'm ready for semester 2 to start tomorrow.
There was plenty of new snow. We did legs only a fair bit, several hill repeats working on offsetting and then a steady ski on the full trail. I didn't have to drive anyone home so I did another loop :)

classic ski (doggie run) 1:00:00 [3]

Easy, ungroomed trail ski with Kato and Jamie behind their house. at lunch time. Some bushwhacking, some creek crossing, loops on frozen ponds, slalom through bullrushes, exploring the woods and fields. Slow, but fun. Snow was a bit sticky in places, but on top of the ice it was great. Happy dogs, happy skier :)
