skate ski (lake) 30:00 [3]

Knew there'd be a crust this morning so I snuck out before everyone got up and skated on Lake Vernon near the rink. Decent crust and gorgeous foredawn light with an ethereal mist rising off the Big East. Beautiful. Worth getting up early for.

classic ski (Fen Lake trails) 2:10:00 [3] 19.0 km (6:51 / km)

Goose did a skate at Arrowhead this early morning before the hordes descended . Didnt't hurt his head:)
Then we drove into Algonquin. I got dropped off at the West Gate to ski the Fen Lake trails while they went to the visitor centre. By then there was no crust, at +9. The trails are all classic there and it was track set a few days ago, but they were still ok. Getting kind of dirty though. It was icy this morning but by the time I started my crowns were grabbing a softened track. There was still some glaze in shaded spots and I did a lot of double poling. It was new to me, very pretty and very peaceful especially the back loop where it looked like maybe only a couple of people had been. I had a lovely time but it'd be nice to ski with someone else sometimes.

skate ski (Arrowhead) 1:50:00 [3] 20.0 km (5:30 / km)

Goose, Tman and I drove up to Huntsville for a "winter" weekend and Family Day. At nearly 10 degrees in Huntsville it seemed more like Easter. Then we waited in a huge line of cars to get into Arrowhead. It was like everyone in Toronto drove up to skate on their ice trail or tube on the tiny hill. We were in the car in line for about 1/2 hr. Once we got to the ski trail cabin it was sane. The trails weren't crazy just the entrance. By then the snow was quite soft and slow but I had a nice steady ski around the lake and on the campground trails. Seemed like a lot of trouble and time in the car for less than 2 hours of skiing -just for me. Goose dropped me off took Tman for lunch and came back to get me -and spent 1/2 hour in the line up to get in again and never did get to ski or skate. Bit disappointing.

skate ski (soccer field) 35:00 [3]

Snuck in a quick ski before school again in bright sunshine on a nice crust. Love it. Did not love the PD day that followed. Should have just called in sick and spent the day skiing in the sunshine. Time to retire.

classic ski (golf coursd) 35:00 [3]

It was too tempting not to get out this morning. Quite cold, bit of a crust and SUNSHINE!! DId a quick cruise wherever I wanted at the back of Glen Eagle. Wished I could have stayed out longer.
12 PM

classic ski (river) 35:00 [3]

Brilliant and still cold at noon so I checked out the river up from the soccer fields. Gorgeous :)
1 PM

snowshoeing (Bolton Camp) 50:00 [2]

Took the girls down the trail into Bolton Camp then off trail in the trees. Lovely:)
4 PM

skate ski (river) 1:00:00 [3]

Still so sunny and chilly, and only 12 kids are moving on to ofsaa, so it was the one day a season when everything aligned for a river ski. We had to walk down from the school to the park and then skied through to the river by the tennis courts; Skied up river for 1/2 hour, with some nice crusty section where we could 1skets, but also dusted ice sections where we had tp double pole. It was a glorious afternoon. Had a blast.

snowshoeing (school field) 1:00:00 [2]

Checked out the school field at lunch and the recent snowfall is still pretty soft and deep so I took my gr.9 girls out for tag games and a tour of the school fields. Fun.
