cycling (road/rail trail) 2:00:00 [3] 40.0 km (3:00 / km)

After spending most of the day standing at a track meet, knowing Goose was running a 52km trail race (his first actual 50km race - and he did quite well!) I felt like I needed to move. Nice afternoon but more wind than I expected. Rode up to the rail trail at Humber Station then over to Mt Wolfe and back home. The trilliums were open today!

cycling (road, rail, trail) 2:50:00 [3] 35.0 mi (4:51 / mi)

Such easy weather to get outside:) another gorgeous day! Not much wind this morning and not hot , just pleasant. Drove up to RR place with Goose an cleft him there for his strength workout whole I rode my mt bike. Rode along Finnerty with a short stop to chat with Bash. Then got on trails behind her house and over to Palgrave Forest where I did a short loop. Got back on Duffy's down to Albion and rode the pine section and then the northeast hardwood hills. Conditions were awesome. Surprisingly, no tress down in that section after Friday's storm. Saw lots of wildflowers: tiny pink spring beauties, bloodroot and ferns unfurling,, patches of bright yellow trout lily turbans, Dutchman's breeches, and the first trilliums! And lots of painted turtles in the wetlands their shells like shiny coins spread along the logs. Then I climbed up the single track above the pool and man there was arboreal carnage! So many big tress down. Some cracked and snapped near near the bottom, some uprooted. Many across the trails. It was like a war zone. Slow going up there with a bike. So sad. But otherwise a wonderful ride.

8 AM

mixed run (park/field) 30:00 [4]

Beautiful morning - bright, fresh. Jogged around the park, then did track mobility drills followed by short sprint intervals. That's about all the knee can take without becoming painful but I felt pretty good:)
11 AM

canoeing (Island Lake) 45:00 [3]

Too lovely a day not to paddle - and we can since we are retired! Goose and I took Pops for his May paddle and we went on a search for turtles. We found several pretty painted turtles sunning themselves on logs and one monster snapping turtle lurking below the surface. He was "yuge"!
2 PM

cycling (road) 20:00 [3] 8.0 km (2:30 / km)

Short subdivision tootle before track practice - it was such a nice day!

Sunday May 6 #

Note

Bethell Hospice Hike today. Pops was able to walk more than 2 km!! Not bad for a guy who wasn't supposed to make it through last Sept.! Susie walked too, and Tavish went 4km:) - with some help singing and encouraging from Neil. Almost the whole Doughty clan was there and we raised almost $6000 thanks to our generous friends who sponsored the "Pops and the Perambulators" team. Nice day too.
