cycling (road) 2:06:00 [4] 45.0 km (2:48 / km)

Goose and I continue our training for our "tour" in June. We rode to Schomberg. There was quite a stiff north wind but it was bright spring day with apple blossoms just popping and lilacs on the verge. We headed up Mt. Hope but had a pitstop when my chain got so sucked in it got stuck. The small ring we added to my bike doesn't really fit the derailleur so I've been having issues. My personal bike mechanic, Goose, to the rescue. He had to take off the back wheel, pop the quick link , then tug on the stuck section - and it finally came out. Then he put it all back together again, on the side of the road. It worked. We carried on to Schomberg, lots of hills, into the wind. It wasn't an easy ride there. But it was fun coming back:) after a quick lunch there.
5 PM

cycling (road) 25:00 [3] 10.0 km (2:30 / km)

Easy 10 km in town after track practice. No chain issues thankfully.

hiking (Kolapore) 1:30:00 [3] 10.0 km (9:00 / km)

Such a nice day!! Easy weather. No worries about staying warm, easy to stay comfortable, easy to move, easy to smile:)
Goose and I have never been on the Kolapore trails, so on our way up to the Beaver River to paddle we stopped for a hike/jog. It was gorgeous. We took the trails to the Bruce Trail at Metcalfe Rock, and its spectacular view then jogged back on the Bruce to the road back to the car. The spring wildflower understory was amazing today - a few days behind ours at home but stunning. Trilliums were popping open all over, trout lilies, spring beauties, 3 colours of violets, marsh marigolds. It was beautiful!
We must try skiing there one day.
3 PM

canoeing (Beaver River) 2:00:00 [3] 10.0 km (12:00 / km)

Exciting day on the Beaver: Hankster's first time in a canoe! He was cute but very perturbed to have to wear his lifejacket. It didn't look that comfortable but it was a cool design. Hermes tried feeding him, cuddling him, singing to him, rocking him, throwing him over her head (but not out of the boat) while Bob bravely paddled on, but Hank was having none of it. Mom figured out an hour into the paddle that what he really wanted was her sunglasses and his own paddle. Then he was fine. SO cute.
It was a lovely meandering paddle from Kimberley to Epping. So many birds - and not just the usual ducks and geese. We saw several spectacularly white egrets, a huge piliated woodpecker, and a back and white night heron which I've never seen before and we were able to get up quite close to it., and I watched a gorgeous bright orange oriole snap up a bug in mid-air. Very cool.
Such a nice day.

Warm day and lovely soft summery evening. Ran around the park then up the HV trail to the "T" and back. Felt pretty good.

cycling (road) 45:00 [3] 15.0 km (3:00 / km)

Bright, beautiful, but brisk morning. Did a short easy ride all over town before a Mother's Day visit from Tman and one of his housemates.
2 PM

canoeing (Island Lake) 1:00:00 [3]

Goose and Tman's housemate In paddled Tman around Isalnd Lake while I soloed. It was such a lovely afternoon, very light breezes and lots of turtles. It was In's first time in a canoe and he loved it:). So did Tman of course. Maybe because we went for ice cream afterward?
5 PM

cycling (road) 1:00:00 [3] 21.0 km (2:51 / km)

Goose was feeling pretty good after his 52km Seaton Soaker yesterday - I couldn't keep up to him on the bike, and he didn't break a sweat.
It was a gorgeous afternoon with just a light wind. Great riding weather:)

cycling (road/rail trail) 2:00:00 [3] 40.0 km (3:00 / km)

After spending most of the day standing at a track meet, knowing Goose was running a 52km trail race (his first actual 50km race - and he did quite well!) I felt like I needed to move. Nice afternoon but more wind than I expected. Rode up to the rail trail at Humber Station then over to Mt Wolfe and back home. The trilliums were open today!
