cycling long 4:20:00 [3] 82.0 km (3:10 / km)

Having gone to bed at 8:00 last night were up early. The rain had stopped and wasn't forecast to start again until midday so got into thrvtrusty steeds about 7:00 and out ran the rain all day. No wind this morning:) Had a nice treat in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield then lunch on a quiet paved trail along the river . It was lovely and peaceful and even sunny! We saw lots of bird life again, several Amercican Bitterns, egrets , herons etc. Goose the good Samaritan came to an elderly guy's rescue and fixed his chain. We carried on under sunny skies along a very quiet wide section of the St.Lawrence before riding through big farm fields with the rain clouds in pursuit. We stopped in Ste. Martine even though it was just after 2:00 because the skies threatened and the next town was a good 2hours away. No campgrounds anywhere nearby so the Ste.Martine motel it is. Overtop of the local Asian restaurant. Goose trying to speak French with the chinese owners for whom French is a second language, and English is third, was comedy.

cycling long (Trip) 5:00:00 [3] 95.0 km (3:09 / km)

Slightly overcast to start with a strong west wind again but no rain and we were late to start having had a comfy bed.
Headed east on a nice wide paved shoulder then onto the Waterfront Trail again heading to Cornwall. The skies cleared and we rode quite a bit on paved trails between long old locks and the river. It was so nice for biking: no cars, in fact we on,y saw a few walkers and cyclists but lots of birds and lilacs. There is a most gorgeous pinky gold one in these parts that I’ve never seen anywhere else. A very very pale kind of champagne pink with a darker blush on one side.
We had a nice latte in Cornwall then were back along the St. Lawrence and beautiful wetlands/marshes getting blown along to Lancaster close to the Quebec border. It was even warn enough for an ice cream today. Camped at Glengarry Park - the only tenters. Threatened rain but held off till we were in the tent.

cycling long (Trip) 8 [3] 115.0 km ( / km)

Day 1 of our road tour : Eastern Ontar/Western Quebec “Fifty Shades of Purple”
Stayed last night at a friend”s cottage on Charleston Lake near Kingston.
Clear and cool but bright when started, about 6 degrees at 8:00.
Goose had chosen a “cottage road” to cut off some kms to get to the main road. Pretty sure he consulted with Bob Miller because it was WT-sequel . As in about a thousand bike -sucking mud pits and small lakes on annATV/skidoo trail with a fair few mosquitoes and black flies. Out first 3 kms took an hour - bushwhacking, the good thing was we did get out of there before the skies opened and the rain started. And lasted all day. Lots of it.
And it wasn’t warm, never got to double digits until about 6:00 pm which was when the sun finally shone. On the plus the wild wind was behind us and there were no hills so we covered kms fairly fast and we didn’t want to sit around at a campsite anyway. The Waterfront Trail was nice where it was a trail. But some sections were on hwy 2 and too busy. it was an adventure and not an easy day but the lilacs were just opening in these parts and they were spectacular. So many different colours of purple from deep dark, to maroon, pinky, mauve, bluish, pale, to white and big.
Wimped out and got a hotel room in Morrisburg to warm up and dry out, and went to a car wash to get the caked on muck off the bikes. Then sadly watched the Bruins lose.
