canoeing (Port Franks) 30:00 [3]
Evening paddle on the longest day of light, to the mouth of the (Ausable) river with Goose, the rest of my family in the tin boat. We scattered my dad's ashes. He wanted to be sprinkled in the lake but it was too rough to do it in front of the cottage. It was doable in the river - with the hopes that the ashes in the river will flow out to the lake. The solstice light as we neared sunset was beautiful and just got more golden and gorgeous then flamed to a brilliant pinky-orange that glowed on the horizon till after 10:00.
We sang a version of one of his favourite songs, a cowboy lullaby:
When I die, take a trip out to the lake
float and boat out in the water, one last wish I'd like to make
scatter all my ashes to the wind and to the sky
let them fall into the water, let me go and say goodbye
Get along my little chicks, get along and not too slow
for now it's time to rest and I'm raring to go
